Shiny Pokemon are the rarest Pokemon to exist in Pokemon Go. This guide will help players optimize their strategy to get more Shiny Pokemon. Pokemon Go is one of the largest mobile titles in the world. Garnering millions of players each day, the game combines capturing Pokemon with the real world. Players are required to explore their real-world environments to find Pokemon hidden in tall mountains, deep jungles, or right down the street. The game exploded in popularity in 2016, where Pokemon trainers would take to the streets and capture all 151 available Pokemon. The game continues to get support with new generations of Pokemon releasing in the game. The game also connected with Let's Go Pikachu and Let's Go Eevee, where players can transfer their Pokemon to the remade Kanto region and have an opportunity to capture Meltan, one of the rarer Pokemon to exist. Due to COVID-19, the game has had to adopt new rules to function since players are required to stay indoors for their safety. This includes increased spawn rates, Incenses working for twice the amount of time, and eggs hatching at half the distance. Pokemon Go also has shiny Pokemon for players to capture. This guide will help players capture some of the rarest Pokemon species in the game.

Shiny Pokemon are Pokemon that have a different color variation when compared to their original forms. For example, Pokemon like Trapinch is typically a bright orange color while its shiny form is a darker-green color. Aside from the color, there is nothing inherently special about these creatures. Although, shiny Pokemon are extremely rare to come across. Shiny forms were introduced to the series back in the second generation with Pokemon Gold and Silver, as players were able to capture a shiny Gyrados in the Lake of Rage.  Even for the most dedicated Pokemon trainers, capturing a complete Pokedex full of shiny Pokemon is easily one of the biggest hurdles in the game. All Pokemon have a shiny variant but some vary on if players are able to obtain them through regiment reasons. Fortunately in Pokemon Go, the odds of running into a shiny Pokemon are around 1 in 450. Still, finding a Shiny Pokemon is extremely difficult. There are certain moments in the game when the odds of running into one are greatly increased. Here's how to get plenty of shiny Pokemon in Pokemon Go.

Increasing The Chance of Shiny Pokemon in Pokemon Go

Pokemon Go Seedot Community Day

Community Day is an event that occurs once a month in Pokemon Go. During Community Day, a specific Pokemon will increase its spawn rate for a limited time. During this time, the Pokemon will appear much more frequently on the map and the chance to run into a Shiny Pokemon is also increased. Players have reported running into 10-20 Shiny Pokemon per Community Day. For starters, to increase the chance of running into a shiny Pokemon during Comunity Day has a lot to do with tapping to capture the Pokemon. Normally when a player tapes on a Pokemon in the map, it's expected that they will want to capture the Pokemon. To find more Shiny Pokemon, rather than capturing every Pokemon that appears, run away from combat and move on to the next Pokemon. This allows players to check every Pokemon until finding a shiny one. Also, certain legendary Pokemon can have shiny variants when fighting them in raids. The shiny form will only appear after defeating the Pokemon in battle. Although, its important to know that not every Pokemon in Pokemon Go has a shiny form. To increase the chance of shiny Pokemon appearing during raids, the raid will need to have a full party. Meaning 20 players need to be active in the raid. 1 out of the 20 trainers will be guaranteed a shiny encounter. Shiny Pokemon also have a 100% catch rate. Just make sure not to miss the throws.

To increase the chance of shiny Pokemon, its important to increase the amount of Pokemon that spawns in general. Outside of Community Days, players can randomly stumble across a shiny Pokemon in the game by walking around or by hatching one. Use Incenses when out in the world to increase the spawn rate of Pokemon. Currently, due to the situations surrounding COVID-19, Pokemon Go has dropped the cost of Incenses in the game to make it easier for players to play at home. Use this often to increase the chance of running into shiny Pokemon.  Shiny Pokemon captured during Community Days are also incredibly rare as they can come with a special move when evolved during Community Day. Capture as many as possible to use for trading later down the line. For the month of May, Seedot will be the Pokemon available for capture. Community Day during this period will last for 6 hours rather than the usual 3, allowing trainers more time to capture shiny Seedot. The goal should always be to capture at least 3 shiny Pokemon during Community Day. If a Pokemon has three different stages in its evolution cycle, having one of each is ideal for showing off the shiny Pokemon.

Shiny Pokemon don't really serve a purpose aside from looking cool. Although, not every shiny variant is cut from the same cloth. For example, Pokemon like Rayquaza have a neat dark black shiny form while Pikachu is a slightly different color of yellow. Each shiny has its own distinct look to it, making them unique every time they appear. They also get a neat sparkle animation whenever one of them appears in the game. It's extremely satisfying to add these rare creatures to your collection. Especially if the player stumbles upon a shiny Pokemon without even trying. There is an entire community around Pokemon players who focus on hunting shiny Pokemon. Each Pokemon title has its own method for optimizing play to capture shiny Pokemon. In Pokemon Sword and Shield, if players have a Ditto from a different region on Earth, it increases the chance for the baby to be shiny. Each Pokemon title adds a new layer to shiny hunting.
