The Apex Masterwork Research is now available to complete in Pokémon GO for players who purchased a Tour Johto ticket. In order to unlock the Apex Masterwork Research quests, players will need to have purchased their ticket and completed the exclusive Special Research quests that accompanied the ticket. The Masterwork Research series is designed to be grueling, and they make take players several months to complete. Unlike other Pokémon GO Special Research tasks and events, the Apex Masterwork Research does not have a time limit.

The Apex Masterwork Research is divided into a series of four parts. To reach the next phase, players will need to complete all of the objectives in the first part, and each part offers a reward for clearing both the phase and the individual objectives. For the first part, players will need to earn 100,000 XP, which will reward 10 Hyper Potions that can be used to heal damaged Pokémon. Additionally, players will need to complete 100 Field Research Tasks for a reward of 1,000 XP. Finally, to finish the first part, players need to catch 100 different species of Pokémon to earn an encounter with Apex Shadow Ho-o in Pokémon GO. To reward players for completing all three objectives in part 1, they will receive 1,000 XP, 1,000 Stardust, and 20 Ho-Oh Candy.

Once players complete part 1 of the Apex Masterwork Research tasks, they will unlock part 2. The first objective of this part is for players to earn a heart with their buddy 30 days in a row for a reward of one Poffin, which is a treat that can be fed to Pokémon to increase friendship. Next, players will need to send 50 gifts to their friends to receive a Lure Module. For the final objective of part 2, players will need to open 10 gifts from friends to earn one Lucky Egg in Pokémon GO. Accordingly, players will be able to complete this stage quickly if they have a lot of active friends. For completing all three tasks in this stage, players will earn 2,000 XP, three Rare Candy, and 2,000 Stardust.

Pokémon GO: Apex Masterwork Research Parts 3 and 4

For part 3, Pokémon Go players will need to hatch 10 Eggs for a reward of 3,000 Stardust. To make this task easier, players may want to purchase additional incubators. Players will also need to battle and defeat 30 Team Go Rocket members to receive their prize of one Rocket Radar, which will allow players to uncover the boss. The final objective in part 3 is to defeat the Team Go Rocket Boss, which rewards players with three Silver Pinap Berries. For completing all three tasks in part 3, players will receive 3,000 XP, 3,000 Stardust, and an encounter with Apex Shadow Lugia in Pokémon GO.

The final part of the Apex Masterwork Research, part 4, only requires players to claim three prizes. They should claim their 3,000 XP, 4,000 Stardust, and 5,000 XP. Once complete, players can claim the final prize of the series, which is 5,000 XP, 20 Lugia Candy, and 5,000 Stardust. The most enticing rewards of the challenge are Apex Shadow Lugia and Apex Shadow Ho-oh, which are more powerful versions of the normal Shadow Pokémon. Additionally, if players choose to purify the Apex Shadow Pokémon, their special move will receive a permanent stat boost.
