Recent titles in the Pokémon series have added battle mechanics that could be used in the heavily anticipated Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl remakes set to release this fall. Of those mechanics, Gigantamax and Dynamax from Sword and Shield could shake up battles in the Sinnoh region. If Gigantamax is included in the remakes, many Generation 4 exclusive Pokémon could get a Gigantamax form. This was seen before when Mega Evolution was expanded with the release of the Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire remakes during Generation 6, adding new options for players to consider for their teams.

Gigantamax is an ability used during certain Pokémon battles throughout the Galar region. In order for Pokémon's Gigantamax or Dynamax to occur, the battle must take place over a Power Spot. In Sword and Shield, these areas were primarily under Gym Stadiums or found in Max Raid Dens around the Wild Area. While Dynamax simply super-sizes a Pokémon in its normal form, Gigantamax gives the Pokémon a new design for the duration of the Giganatamax ability. In order for this mechanic to appear in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, Power Spots would need to be introduced throughout Sinnoh, or added to the existing gym mechanics.

Currently, there are 32 Pokémon species capable of Gigantamax, and of those species, there are several that were disappointing for fans of the Pokémon games. These unfortunate designs included the trash bag Pokémon Garbodor and crab Pokémon Kingler, both of which seemed odd choices for the special ability when there are many other popular Pokémon options. There are also only 6 different starters who are capable of Giganatamax, including the Kanto starters Charizard, Blastoise, and Vensusaur, as well as the Galar starters Inteleon, Rillaboom, and Cinderace. Hopefully, an expansion to Gigantamax capable species could add more fan-favorite starters to the list.

Pokémon's Lucario Should Have A Gigantamax Form

Lucario in Pokemon GO

The 4th Generation of the Pokémon series introduced many popular species to the Pokédex. There are a number of region-specific Pokémon who would look fantastic with a Gigantamax form. Besides the Sinnoh starters, popular Pokémon like Lucario, Mismagius, and Luxray would all benefit from a Gigantamax design. Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl could also add Gigantmax forms for Eeveelutions like Leafeon and Glaceon, or make a single Gigantamax form for every Eeveelution, much like how Flapple and Appletun share a Gigantamax form. It is also possible Pokémon from the Hoenn region could be added to the Gigantamax list, instead of focusing entirely on Sinnoh Pokémon.

Currently, nothing has been confirmed by Game Freak about which past battle mechanics might make their way into the Diamond and Pearl remakes. Even if Gigantamax doesn't make it into the upcoming Pokémon remakes, there are many exciting mechanics unique to the Sinnoh region that may make a reappearance, offering exciting gameplay for fans of the older games.
