Several Pokémon Scarlet and Violet leaks in July have supposedly revealed a handful of new Generation 9 Pokémon designs. In February, Game Freak surprised players around the world, when the company announced that Gen 9 would be launching in November. Following the short Pokémon Scarlet and Violet gameplay trailer that was released in June, the Nintendo developer has been tight-lipped about the upcoming RPGs. Despite Gen 9 still being months away from release, some of the game's new Pokémon designs and evolutions may have been leaked early online.

In the June Pokémon Scarlet and Violet trailer, players got their first glimpse at the upcoming region's Pokédex with the debut of new Gen 9 Pokémon Lechonk, Pawmi, and Smoliv. The update video also showed off new footage of Scarlet and Violet's Starter Pokémon Sprigatito, Fuecoco, and Quaxly battling for the very first time as well. The gameplay trailer's biggest reveal, though, was the Gen 9 Scarlet and Violet Legendary Pokémon Koraidon and Miraidon.

Despite two trailers, there is still a lot unknown about Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. Compared to the marketing of Gen 8's Pokémon Sword and Shield in 2019, it's surprising that Game Freak still hasn't unveiled the new region's name yet. Fans were somewhat shocked when several major leaks in July reportedly revealed many new Gen 9 Pokémon designs. Below is a breakdown of every Pokémon Gen 9 design rumored for Scarlet and Violet.

Gen 9 Pokémon Designs Rumored For Scarlet & Violet

Gen 9 Pokemon Designs Rumored

The leak first appeared on Twitter, when a now-deleted account posted never-before-seen screenshots from Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. Fans went into a frenzy, when various prominent Pokémon insiders who have credibly leaked information in the past, confirmed that the leaked images in July were reportedly legitimate. After Pokémon Scarlet and Violet's Gym Leaders leaked in a series of photos, the mysterious leaker then reappeared and began to post additional information about the Gen 9 games.

In a tweet reposted by CentroLeaks, the vanished account revealed what they claimed was a handful of new Gen 9 Pokémon designs. Although fans still don't know the name of the new region, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet will supposedly have a regional form of Johto's Wooper that turns it into a Poison-type. Just like Pokémon Legends: Arceus' Hisuian forms the leaker claims that the regional Wooper will evolve into a brand new Pokémon instead of Quagsire. The July Scarlet and Violet leak also claims that Gen 9 will feature a massive Pokédex full of new regional Pokémon that will make their series debuts. Some of the more interesting designs include a Flamingo and Dolphin PokémonBelow is a list of all the new Pokémon rumored to be in Scarlet and Violet:

  • Dunsparce evolution
  • Flamingo Pokémon
  • Murkrow evolution
  • Dolphin Pokémon
  • New Semi Legendary Pokémon Quartet
  • Girafarig evolution
  • Wooper Poison-type Regional Form
  • Wooper Regional Form Evolution

The Gen 9 Scarlet and Violet Starter Pokémon were also included in the leak, as the mysterious account posted several partial images of what they claimed were the final evolutions for Quaxly and Sprigatito. If true, the leaked screenshots seem to confirm early rumors of Sprigatito being a Grass/Dark-type, while Quaxly is a Water/Fighting-type.

Although the leaker didn't post images of Fuecoco, the user did reveal that the Fire-type will supposedly evolve into an Alligator similar to Gen 2 Starter Feraligatr. Over on Reddit, fans took the rumored images from the leak and finished them with an artist's interpretation of what their final version could look like based on the blurry screenshots.

Pokémon Scarlet & Violet Gimmick And New Forms

One of the strangest claims to come out of the July leak is that Gen 9 will feature a new Pokémon variant that is separate from regional forms. Rumors of a "regional fake" type first started to appear online in early June, which left many fans scratching their heads in confusion. New fuel was added to the rumors fire when the July leak included a bizarre image of Jigglypuff allegedly from Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

In one picture, the Gen 1 Pokémon Red and Blue Normal-type is seen with fangs in its mouth. The screenshot immediately had fans calling it "Vampire Jigglypuff", although it's hard to fully make out the model due to the poor quality of the image. A second screenshot was then posted, that seemingly showed Pokémon Black and White's Amoonguss with weeds growing around its head. Although the leaker didn't outright explain what was going on in the images, many fans believed that they could be the "fake" variant that has been rumored for the past month.

The Pokémon Scarlet and Violet leaker even included new details about the Gen 9 gameplay gimmick and said that the feature would revolve around Pokémon being turned into a crystallized form. The now-deleted account didn't elaborate further, although several screenshots appear to show Pokémon with a crystal-like texture around them.

Usually, most Pokémon Scarlet and Violet leaks and rumors are not taken seriously, as anyone can post blurry photos and create fake information. However, many fans believe the latest Gen 9 leaks to be legitimate, after credible Pokémon insider Riddler Khu seemingly confirmed that all the leaked images were real. In 2021, Riddler accurately leaked all Hisuian Pokémon months before Pokémon Legends: Arceus launched. So it's not unheard of to see information from upcoming Pokémon games get leaked out early.

Players could find out soon whether the leaked screenshots are accurate, as the Gen 9 RPGs are due for another update video. When Pokémon Sword and Shield was released in 2019, players were given a third trailer in July that showed off the region's gameplay gimmick and Gym Leaders.  If the rumors are true, then Pokémon Scarlet and Violet look to be shaping up to be one of Game Freak's most adventurous games to date.
