The ultimate Pokémon cheat sheet is here to remind gamers how to climb to the top of the Pokémon trainer pyramid in the monster-filled realms of Kanto and beyond. Despite it being nearly 23 years since fans first picked up Pokémon Red and Blue, it's still easy to forget which type is most/least effective against another.

As of 2018, there are officially 809 different Pokémon, with this set to rise in 2019 with the rumored release of Generation 8 and a new core Pokémon game. Pokémon X and Y introduced Fairy-type Pokémon, meaning there are currently 18 different types since the ??? type was retired after Generation IV. While it's fairly easy to work out that Chikorita is doomed against an Arcanine, players might not know that Gengar could give that extra edge over Espeon.

While avid gamers have probably seen this type of table before, Reddit user smokemonkey97 posted a comprehensive one from an Imgur image in 2014 to remind everyone which Pokémon are the best to pick for which battle. Legendary Pokémon will always be a popular choice, but even that doesn't mean Golem and Vaporeon aren't ideal for taking on Ho-Oh. Blastoise's Hydro Cannon is sure to knock the CP off a Typhlosion, Alakazam is a powerful presence against Hariyama, and Lapras can chip away at Salamence. Unfortunately, Dragon-type Pokémon are only effective against their own species and Normal Pokémon aren't effective against any. That being said, it doesn't mean a powerful Dragonite or Snorlax can't wipe out opponents fairly quickly.

From the days of Pokémon Red and Blue, the series continues to be one of the most popular video game franchises out there. Not that the franchise's popularity ever went away, but the series has had a resurgence thanks to Pokémon Go's unprecedented popularity and the more recent release of Pokémon Let's Go on the Nintendo Switch. Also, the introduction of new PVP battles in Pokémon Go means the table is more useful than ever.
