The new Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade 2021 Pokémon float featuring Pikachu and Eevee looked adorable on it way down NYC's West 77th Street, but the Poké Ball sleigh looked a little off to some viewers. This year's Pokémon Thanksgiving Day Parade float was first revealed in October, and it joined 2021's cavalcade of promotional balloons for the nation's annual holiday tradition on November 25.

Pokémon is an even larger gaming, TV, and film sensation than it was when the first Pikachu float flew at the 2001 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. The new float celebrates not just the franchise's 20th year being represented in the time-honored event, but also Pokémon's 25th anniversary overall. 2021 has hosted several events, marketing tie-ins, and game releases, including limited-time Pokémon GO events, the Pokémon 25 album starring popular music artists like Katy Perry and Post Malone, and - most recently - the launch of the Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl remakes for Nintendo Switch. The games were announced on Pokémon Day 2021 alongside Pokémon Legends: Arceus (which has Pikachu and Eevee promotions of its own), a semi-open-world Switch game releasing in January. Before that, though, The Pokémon Company made waves at the Thanksgiving Day Parade 2021, but some viewers were left slightly confused.

As can be seen in a Macy's Twitter video, the new holiday-themed Pokémon float starring Pikachu and Eevee made its way through Manhattan during the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade 2021 without any issues. However, some viewers like Twitter user zoid9000 pointed out that while the float looked adorable, some perspectives were less kind to its Poké Ball-themed sleigh. Sharing offscreen photos taken of the Pokémon balloon, zoid9000 states the sleigh "kinda looks like a hot dog from below" because of its brown runners and white bottom, giving it the appearance of a hotdog bun. Because of their plump appearance and color, the argument could also be made that the runners resemble frankfurters themselves.

Those comparisons are apt when viewing the Pokémon float from certain angles, but Eevee's Thankgiving Day Parade debut otherwise looked cute and clear in intention from most angles shown on TV. In prior years, Pikachu was the only pocket monster to feature at the annual parade, being the franchise mascot and star of the Pokémon anime and movies. However, The Pokémon Company has increasingly capitalized on the popularity of Eevee and its many evolutions (aka Eeveelutions) in recent years, with the furry creature even getting its own named game release in Pokémon: Let's Go Pikachu and Eevee. This surge in recognizability led to the Pokémon earning its place on a float alongside Pikachu for the first time in Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade history.

Despite looking a bit like a hotdog to hungry Thanksgiving viewers, the Pokémon Pikachu and Eevee Thanksgiving Day Parade float seems to have made an impression on in-person and streaming audiences alike. It can usually be assumed a new float will be used for at least a few years, but The Pokémon Company may go back to the drawing board for future Pokémon floats if it determines enough people saw a hotdog where a Poké Ball was supposed to be in 2021.
