The Poké Radar is a Key Item in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl for players to unlock. As players progress through their adventures in the Sinnoh region, they will unlock access to special items that allow players to interact with the world. Like the Pokémon in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, these items can help players discover new items, locations and discover Shiny Pokémon. One of the items players will get access to later is the Poké Radar. While it did debut in the original game back in 2006, this new version includes a few features exclusive to the remake.

The Poké Radar is an item that allows players to find specific wild Pokémon hiding in tall grass, and it is important for players looking to add a specific Pokémon to their team. More importantly, this entry brings back the method of hunting for Shiny Pokémon using the Poké Radar. Shiny Pokémon are alternate colored variations of normal Pokémon. Although, finding them is incredibly rare since the odds of encountering one is 1/4096. If the player encounters the same wild Pokémon repeatedly, it will increase the chances of it being Shiny. After 40 encounters, players will bring the odds down to 1 in 99. The Poké Radar is a game-changer for hunting for Shiny Pokémon because of items like this, Pokémon's Shiny Hunting community continues to grow to new audiences.

The Poké Radar will be given to the trainers by Professor Oak after seeing all 151 Pokémon in the Sinnoh region. After completing this, head over to Pal Park and talk to Professor Rowan. Talking to the professor after seeing all 151 Pokémon in the game, trainers will also be granted access to the National Dex.

Using The Poké Radar in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl

After obtaining the Poké Radar, players can set it as a shortcut from the Key Items menu. When using it in the grass, the nearby patches of grass will begin to shake. Trainers can approach them to begin the encounter and can either capture or defeat these Pokémon. It's important to mention that encountering any other Pokémon during this phase will cause the chain to be broken.

To avoid this, make sure to keep Repels active for as long as possible. Players can purchase these from the Poké Marts, preventing players from encountering random wild Pokémon. Avoid using the bike and do not leave the route as well. Turning off the game or using the Autosave feature will also break the chain. The Poké Radar will be difficult to unlock, but the reward makes it much easier to obtain Shiny Pokémon within Sinnoh. It is one of the many ways to find Shiny Pokémon. Alternatively, players can learn how to breed Shiny Pokémon, hunt for them in the Underground, or encounter them completely randomly.
