Fire-type Pokémon are usually seen as tough, aggressive, raging, and fierce. When thinking of the type, most people will think of the raging Charizard, the intense Infernape, or even the majestic Moltres. In other words, cute isn't the word that comes to mind when thinking about these flaming creatures.

Alas, Fire-types can be just as cute as any other Pokémon. It's true that this cuteness is mainly limited to the initial stages and baby Pokémon, but it's there nonetheless. And it's high time for the Fire-type to break free from stigmas and preconceived notions and live up to its inherent cute potential.

Flareon

One of the original Eevolutions, Flareon is a pure Fire-type covered in reddish fur. It has yellow fluff surrounding its neck and coming out of its head forming a small tuft. Its tail is large and bushy, and it has an internal flame sac that stores and heats inhaled air which it then releases as flames.

Because a Fire Stone is needed to evolve Eevee into Flareon, this Pokémon is usually found in highly populated areas and is hardly ever seen in the wild. While not the cutest of the Eevolutions, Flareon definitely ranks as one of the cutest Fire-types.

Growlithe

Another Kanto Pokémon that also evolves when exposed to a Fire Stone, Growlithe is basically a good boi. Its beige fur, which covers its muzzle, chest, belly, and tail, makes it look like a stuffed animal come to life. Friendly and staunchly loyal, Growlithe will fearlessly defend its trainer or territory from any possible harm.

Growlithe's been around since the Pokémon Stone Age. It has a very good relationship with humans and will sit motionless until given an order by its trainer. Its olfactory sense is so developed, it's able to even smell people's emotions, reacting accordingly.

Numel

A pack of Numel in the Pokémon anime.

And speaking of Pokémon that look like stuffed animals, Numel may very well be a toy from a baby's room that somehow became sentient. Numel resembles a Dromedary camel and its cute, unassuming face might make unsuspecting trainers try to hug it.

This would be a grave mistake, however, as its hump contains magma of almost 2,200 °F. Numel is a slow-witted Pokémon who sometimes doesn't even realize when it's been hit. Because of its ability to carry heavy loads, it has served humans for a long time.

Fennekin

Kalos Fire-starter, Fennekin, is a small, fox-like creature. Temperamental but committed to its trainer, Fennekin has a large head that might seem too large for its small body. Two tufts of orange fur come out of its large ears and cover the tip of its pointy, fluffy tail.

Fennekin's cuteness resides in its huge orange eyes and tiny, delicate body. Its white muzzle, which contrasts greatly with the rest of its yellow skin, also gives it an instantly memorable appearance.

Chimchar

Sinnoh's Fire starter, Chimchar, is a small, chimpanzee-like Pokémon. Unlike other Fire-types, Chimchar can willingly control the flames coming out of its tail, which are fueled by the gas stored inside its belly. When it goes to sleep, the flames go out.

Chimchar is a fan-favorite Pokémon and the go-to choice for many players during their Sinnoh playthroughs. With the recent announcement of the Gen IV remakes, Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, fans can't wait to use the Chimp Pokémon one more time.

Litleo

A roaring Litleo in the Pokémon anime

Another Kalos Pokémon, Litleo and its evolution, Pyroar, are the only two mons with the Fire/Normal type combination. A popular Pokémon amongst royalty, Litleo is a hot-blooded creature with a heat-producing mane.

A curious Pokémon by nature, Litleo will often start fights. Once Litleo cubs are strong enough to hunt, they're kicked out of the pride and must learn to survive on their own. This mon's big, round eyes and smiley muzzle make it one of the most adorable creatures in all of Kalos. When it evolves, it abandons all trace of cuteness and instead becomes prideful and regal.

Magby

A baby Pokémon introduced in Generation II, Magby evolves into Magmar starting at level 30, which evolves into Magmortar when traded holding a Magmarizer. Hot embers usually drip from its mouth, which are also indications of its health state.

Magby lives in volcanic areas, although some can be found living peaceful lives in towns. Magby is known for being small and timid. The Pokédex states that its blood looks like magma and its body temperature is around 1,100 °F. Like its evolutions, Magby seemed to be based on a duck, with its beak resembling that of a rubber duck.

Vulpix

One of the original cute Pokémon, Vulpix is a small, fox-like creature. It is born with a single tail that splits as it grows. Its body houses a flame that never goes out, and which causes it to constantly spit fire to avoid overheat.

Vulpix is quite cunning and sneaky. It is known to feign injury to escape predators that are too powerful for it to overcome. In Alola, Vulpix has a regional form that adapted to its snowy surrounding by adopting the Ice-type. It apparently arrived in Alola with other humans but retreated to the mountains to avoid them. Both Kantonian and Alolan Vulpix evolve when exposed to a Fire and Ice Stone respectively. While the former stays a pure Fire-type, the latter becomes Ice/Fairy.

Litwick

A group of Litwicks.

One of the cutest Pokémon ever created, Litwick is a small, candle-like creature with a purple flame atop its head. However, one shouldn't be fooled by this Pokémon's sweet and innocent appearance, because the truth is much darker.

A dual-type Ghost/Fire Pokémon, Litwick's flame shines with the life energy it absorbs from others. It often pretends to help people by lighting dark areas. In reality, it's actually sucking away their life energy and leading them to the Ghost world. The more energy it absorbs, the bigger its flame becomes.

Cyndaquil

With its perpetually closed eyes, tiny hands, and soft cry, Cyndaquil is, without a doubt, the cutest Fire-type Pokémon. Timid and fearful, Cyndaquil curls up into a ball when intimidated. Because of their status as a Starter Pokémon, they are rare in the wild but can be sometimes found living in grasslands.

Cyndquil fans rejoiced when the recently announced Pokémon Legends: Arceus revealed the Fire Mouse Pokémon as one of three possible starters in the game, giving some much-deserved spotlight to this underrated Pokémon.
