Since its debut in 1996 -- and 1998 in the U.S. -- Pokémon has swept the world with its trading cards, television, movies, and games. It is a fantastical world of sentient plants, hybrid creatures that beg to be caught (hence the tagline: "Gotta Catch 'Em All!"), and heroes and villains vying to be Pokémon master in a colorful, fun, action-packed alternate reality.

The stars of Pokémon are the Pokémon themselves: Pickachu, Squirtle, Charmander, and Bulbasaur, just to name a few. They come in all shapes, sizes, and colors with varying abilities and weaknesses, which are called types. The grass-types, in particular, make catching Pokémon an addicting experience for folks to watch, read, and play.

Cherubi

Also known as the "Cherry Pokémon," Cherubi is a grass type that was introduced in generation 4. Its ability is Chlorophyll which, during some blinding sunshine, doubles the ability-bearer's speed.

Cherubi undergoes only one more evolution, turning into Cherrim once a player levels up. Cherubi is strong against water, rock, and ground types (as most grass-types are). What makes this little Pokémon so cute is its small round shape, bright red color, and the little buddy ball it carries around.

Treecko

Introduced in generation 3, Treecko is the "Wood Gecko Pokémon" grass-type that remains calm, cool, and collected under pressure. Its name combines the words "tree" and "gecko," the latter being a tropical lizard. Bright green in color with a vibrant pink belly, Treecko's ability is "overgrow," which increases the ability-bearer's moves by 1.5 times when it drops below its maximum (1/3).

Treecko evolves two more times, first into Grovyle, and then into Sceptile. Alongside Treecko's fun colors, it also sports big eyes and tiny rounded toes, complete with a leaf for a tail, making this one of the cute grass-type Pokémon.

Sunkern

The "Seed Pokémon," brought to us in generation 2, has Chlorophyll and Solar Power, raising the ability-bearer's special attack by 50 percent. Sunkern's name combines the words "sunflower," "kernel," and "sunken," and it is yellow, brown, and green in color with a wide-open, smiling mouth.

Sunkern evolves into Sunflora and stops there in its evolutionary journey. Sunkern is a lazy Pokémon, but that is only part of its cutesy charm when we see its petals surrounding its head and fan-blade-like leaves.

Hoppip

Generation 2 brought fans this "Cottonwood Pokémon." It also possesses Chlorophyll and Leaf Guard, which guards the ability-bearer against sleep, burns, paralysis, poisoning, or freezing (considered significant status ailments) during sunny weather.

Hoppip is a round creature with a bubble-gum pink pigment and beady yellow eyes, as well as helicopter-like leaves of green on its head. Its name comes from the words "hop" and "pip," which is a seed. This cute Pokémon evolves from this to Skiploom, and finally to Jumpluff. Along with Hoppip's cute features, it also floats and glides in the wind, and often signals springtime.

Chikorita

Chikorita, the "Leaf Pokémon" given to fans in generation 2, is another cute grass-type Pokémon that also uses Overgrow to the ability-bearer's advantage. Its name comes from the word "chicory," a flowering plant, and "-ita," which is the Spanish word suffix that means "small."

A small, light green Pokémon with big brown eyes and a single leaf on its head and small thorns protruding from its chest, Chikorita is a sunbathing, sweet -- and sweet-smelling -- Pokémon that produces a fragrance from its leaf to calm and subdue foes and create a nice, cuddly atmosphere.

Tangela

Tangela, the "Vine Pokémon" from the OG generation 1 is a grass-type that provides the ability-bearer with both Chlorophyll and Leaf Guard. The name comes from the word "tangle," and it is definitely appropriate, as this Pokémon has a black face with large eyes surrounded by blue tangles.

It evolves only once, morphing into Tangrowth, and spends its life ensnared in the vines, its true identity unknown.

Turtwig

From "turtle" and "twig" comes this Pokémon from the 4th generation. Turtwig is a cute grass-type that also uses Overgrow. Also known as the 'Tiny Leaf Pokémon', this half turtle, half twig is a light green, brown, and yellow poké with a twig-sprouting hat on its head, complete with two leaves.

It evolves into Grotle and then Torterra by its final evolution. The chin guard-looking shape on its face, along with its eyes and short, round stature make this Pokémon super cute.

Bellsprout

This Flower Pokémon from generation 1 is a unique one. Like its predecessors, it also gives Chlorophyll to the ability-bearer, and with a long, thin, bendy body, this Pokémon can swiftly avoid attack.

Its bottom splits off into two, leaving what looks like legs, with two leaves for arms and a bell-shaped head. Finally, it has a face that resembles a human's, made up of pale green, pink, yellow, and brown colors. This Pokémon's name comes from the words "bell" and "sprout." From Bellsprout comes the equally-cute Weepinbell and Victreebel.

Oddish

Bulbasaur

The first Pokémon and as a part of generation 1, Bulbasaur takes the crown for being the cutest grass-type Pokémon. Bulbasaur uses Overgrow during attack. This Pokémon can evolve two more times, first into Ivysaur and then into Venusaur. It enjoys napping, which is just one of its cute qualities.

Various shades of green comprise this Bulbasaur, as well as red eyes and a seed on its back. Considering its small stature and feet, complete with the tiniest claws, there's no question of Bulbasaur's cuteness.
