The Pokémon TCG's Chilling Reign expansion recently released, with the pack focusing on the collection of Pokémon featured in the Crown Tundra DLC for Pokémon Sword and Shield. The collection features fifteen Pokémon V and eight Pokémon VMAX, with several cards featuring the Single Strike or Rapid Strike Battle Styles. Chilling Reign collections have the chance of containing various Secret Rare cards and alternate art that increases a Pokémon card's rarity and value.

Since the recent spike in the popularity of trading cards, and the increase of their value thanks to recent mainstream appeal with content creators, cards such as Pokémon and Magic the Gathering have increased in price and rarity. Several retail stores have halted or limited purchases to consumers, making it increasingly difficult for collectors and players alike to obtain Pokémon cards. Chilling Reign is the most recent Pokémon TCG addition, and some cards are already selling for a lot of money.

TCG Player is a good place to find out the value of Pokémon cards, and already several Chilling Reign cards are selling for over a hundred dollars. The fifth most valuable card is Galarian Zapdos V, one of the Legendary Galarian Bird trio in Chilling Reign. This card's alternate full art version is selling for a market price of $83.51. Its art resembles the Pokémon anime style, making it cartoonishly unique among the other cards in the collection. Ranking just above Galarian Zapdos V is one of the Secret Rare cards of the expansion: Snorlax. This card has a Shiny version of Snorlax with a beautiful golden background. Its Secret Rare status and Gormandize ability raise it to a higher value than Zapdos, with Snorlax currently priced at a market value of $106.37.

A Fire Starter Takes Chilling Reign's Most Valuable Spot

Pokemon Crown Tundra Blaziken

The Legendary Galarian Birds in the Crown Tundra seem to have received extreme value in the Chilling Reign expansion, with Galarian Moltres V's alternate full art currently ranked as the third most valuable card in the collection. Featuring the intimidatingly haunting art of Galarian Moltres ushering in destruction, combined with its overpowering Aura Burn attack, has given it a market value of $113.57. One of Chilling Reign's cover Pokémon has earned a spot as one of its most valuable cards: the Secret Rare, alternate art version of Shadow Rider Calyrex VMAX.

The Shadow Rider Calyrex Pokémon card comes in several forms in the Chilling Reign collection, with most holding extremely high value and ranking in the top ten or twenty most valuable Chilling Reign cards, depending on shifting market values. Consistently, the most valuable version features foil detailing around the edge of the card, along with a magical picture of Calyrex and Spectrier mid-leap through a starry night. Combined with its Underworld Door ability, this version of Shadow Rider Calyrex VMAX has a market price of $121.14.

Continuing a pattern that has been present in the Pokémon franchise since the first generation of games was released, a fire starter (like Charizard) has taken its place as the most popular (and valuable) card available in Chilling Reign. Featuring arguably the best art, most powerful attacks, useful abilities, and the greatest rarity of the collection, the Secret Rare Blaziken VMAX with alternate art is the most valuable card in the Chilling Reign Pokémon TCG expansion. While not the most expensive card ever created, its art style features thickly set lines with a myriad of distinct colors. This card is currently set at a market value of $134.39

The Chilling Reign expansion packs are full of powerful new additions to any Pokémon deck, but collectors looking to secure the rarest of the set will have to shell out more than a pretty penny (or be extremely lucky). While values of the cards are subject to change over time, these cards are currently the most sought-after prizes in the Chilling Reign expansion pack. Pokémon TCG's Chilling Reign expansion is out now.
