A Pokémon fan has created an impressive LED Neon sign based on the classic Grass-type Pokémon, Bulbasaur. Bulbasaur has been a fan favorite since their first appearance as a starter Pokémon in the Kanto region back in 1996's Pokémon Red and Blue, and has gone on to be the subject of plenty of fan art and also fanmade creations.
Most recently, Bulbasaur's evolutions were redesigned for Halloween by a fan to high praise. These designs, which saw Bulbasaur, Ivysaur, and Venusaur clad in bones with Jack O'Lantern pumpkins in place of their usual bulbs fit in with the Pokémon franchise's many spooky or horror-inspired elements - which can often be found by reading through the Pokédex entries to further explore the series' dark lore - and were revealed at a time when the franchise was gearing up for the spooky season itself. Earlier this month, The Pokémon Company revealed a lineup of Halloween-themed merchandise that prominently featured Ghost-type Gengar and franchise icon Pikachu, as well as a new Pokémon Trick Or Trade Halloween Set for the long-running Trading Card Game.
Artist Bonzurr took to Reddit to share a striking image of their latest creation: a Bulbasaur LED Neon sign. The sign is impressively detailed with multiple colored lights, and in a separate post bonzurr shared a timelapse showing the process of creating it. The process took about 30 hours to complete and was a combination of 3D designing and printing the frame, and then manually assembling the lights on it. The lamp is the latest in a series of game-inspired designs that have also covered the Halo and Crash Bandicoot franchises, and many fans were so impressed with the results that they began asking how they could get their hands on one of the signs themselves, which they can do from bonzurr's store, which is called Kamelneon.
Bulbasaur Isn't Bonzurr's First Pokémon LED Neon Sign
Prior to the Bulbasaur sign, bonzurr had created nine others inspired by the world of Pokémon, all of which are available on their site. These signs cover other popular Pokémon such as Pikachu, Charizard, and Mewtwo, as well as Pokéballs and Masterballs, and vary in how many colors and details they include. Pikachu, for example, has two variants, one of which is a yellow outline of the Electric-type Pokémon for those who prefer a more minimalist design, and the other that features further details such as facial features, which is more similar to the multicolored designs seen in the Bulbasaur and Charizard signs.
Bonzurr's LED Neon signs are impressive, and would definitely fit in well in any gaming-themed space. Bonzurr assured fans that they are slowly but steadily creating more - referring back to the 30-hour production process for creating just one sign - but Pokémon fans should certainly keep an eye on their store to see what other characters they choose to create next.
