In Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, players will want to acquire the bike to allow them to explore the Sinnoh region faster than traveling on foot. Riding a bike increases a player’s travel speed substantially. In addition to the speed increase, riding a bike significantly decreases the time required to hatch eggs in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, as steps are still counted when the player is riding their bike.
Players do not have access to a bike immediately in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, but it can be obtained once they reach Eterna City. Once a player reaches Eterna City, they will need to defeat the local gym leader, Gardenia. She focuses on Grass-type Pokémon, so players may want to plan accordingly to defeat her and earn their Forest Badge.
Once Gardenia's gym is defeated, players will gain access to Cut, a move used both in battle and in the overworld. In Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, Cut allows players to chop down small trees blocking their path. Cut is given to players as a TM from Cynthia, a member of the Elite Four. The move will need to be added to the Hidden Moves app in the player’s Pokétch so they can remove trees blocking their path.
Save a Local Man to Get the Bike in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl
Once players obtain the Cut move in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, they should leave the gym in Eterna City and head north to the Team Galactic HQ. The building is located just behind the Eterna City Pokémon Center, but the entrance is blocked by small trees. Here, players can use the newly learned move from their Pokétch to chop the trees and enter the building.
When a player enters the Team Galactic building, they will be challenged to several Pokémon battles by members of Team Galactic, the redesigned enemy of Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl. Once players reach the fourth floor of the building, Jupiter, a Team Galactic commander, is found harassing a local man. Jupiter will challenge players to a Pokémon battle. Players will need to defeat Jupiter to rescue the man.
Once rescued, the man will invite the player over to his bicycle shop, Rad Rickshaw's Cycle Shop. In Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, this shop is located south of the Eterna City Pokémon Center, which is used to heal Pokémon. The man explains that he is so grateful to the player for saving him that he would like to gift them a free bike. He even allows the player to choose a green, blue, red, or yellow bicycle. Once players choose their color, the bike will be stored in their Key Items menu in their inventory.
Players will begin riding the bike once it is selected from the Key Items menu. They can even press B while riding to change gears. To get off the bike, players can again select it from the Key Items menu and choose “get off the bike." For an easier way to get on and off their bike, players can register the item to the + button. That way, pressing + will immediately get out and put away the bike.
