Super Contest Shows is a minigame event in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl that players can enter by traveling to the contest center. These shows were included in the original games but have been slightly updated for the remakes. Players will need to enter specific Pokémon that excel in a variety of categories in order to get first place in every contest type.
In order to enter a Super Contest Show, players will first need to travel to Hearthome City. The Super Contest Hall is within the city, which is the third place in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl that players will visit for a Gym Badge. After entering Hearthome City, players can head north to find a boy that will take them straight to the Super Contest Hall.
Once inside the Super Contest Hall, players can approach the counter and speak to the NPC to begin the entry process. There are five different contest categories that players can enter: coolness, beauty, cuteness, cleverness, and toughness. Each category works the same, but different Pokémon will have success depending on the type of contest that they're entered in. There is a visual evaluation before the contest starts based on the Pokémon's stat that matches the contest type.
Competing in a Super Contest Show in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl
After choosing the appropriate contest type in Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, players will pick the Pokémon they want to enter. The first step in the contest is the visual evaluation that ranks the contesting Pokémon based on the same stat as the contest they're competing in. For example, a Pokémon with a high cuteness stat will do well in a cuteness contest's visual evaluation. Stats can be boosted using top-quality Poffins before entering a Pokémon.
The next step in the Super Contest Show will involve competing in a dance minigame in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl. During this portion, players will need to time their interactions with the rhythm of the music to build up Hype points. The more Hype points a Pokémon receives, the better they'll do in the contest. Special moves can also be used to create chains by timing them with other contestants. The special moves will use the Pokémon's attacks in ways that fit in with the contest.
Each contest category will play out the same way in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl. Players will need to travel to Hearthome City in order to enter a contest from the Super Contest Hall. Each type of contest will allow players to show off their best Pokémon and test their reaction skills during the dance portion of the Super Contest Show in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl.
Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl will be available on November 19th, 2021 for Nintendo Switch.
