Moon Stones are one of several different kinds of evolution stones found in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl. Evolution stones are single-use items that have been a significant part of the Pokémon franchise since they first appeared in the release of Pokémon Red and Pokémon Green. Every generation of games has Pokémon that can only be acquired by using the evolution stones, and Moon Stones are used more for evolving Pokémon than almost every other stone.

Unlike Dusk, Shiny, or Dawn Stones in Pokémon BDSP, Moon Stones cannot be found throughout Sinnoh laying around on the ground. Moon Stones also cannot be found at random with the Pick Up ability of some Pokémon, like Pachirisu, and they are unavailable for purchase. This makes finding Moon Stones considerably more challenging than any other evolutionary stone, but trainers will be able to grab one with enough luck.

The earliest players can grab a Moon Stone in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl is after gaining access to the Grand Underground. The Grand Underground has many locations where players can mine items hidden within the walls. However, it is worth pointing out that these items are randomly generated. The Explorer Kit grants access to the Grand Underground and can be found in Eterna City after speaking with an NPC in the house next to the Pokémon Center.

Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl: Pokémon That Moon Stones Evolve

Moon Stones can be used to evolve Pokémon in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.

In Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, only five species of Pokémon can evolve using Moon Stones. Trainers can use Moon Stones to evolve Nidorina, Nidorino, Clefairy, Jigglypuff, and Skitty. Unfortunately, only Clefairy is available before obtaining the National Dex. Clefairy can be found in either the Trophy Garden or at Mount Coronet. After getting the National Dex, Jigglypuff can also be found inside the Trophy Garden. Nidorina and Nidorino can be found in the Grand Underground or by using the Poké Radar on Route 201, 221, and the Valor Lakefront. Likewise, Skitty can also be found in the Grand Underground and Route 222. Some Pokémon can also learn TM 46 Thief to steal a Moon Stone off of Clefairy.

Like Magnemite and its Metal Coat, Clefairy and Cleffa, the baby Pokémon that evolves into Clefairy, can both be found in the wild holding a Moon Stone. However, there is only a 5% chance of either Pokémon holding the lunar evolution stone. Some Pokémon can learn Thief and steal a Moon Stone off Cleffa and Clefariy. After acquiring a Moon Stone, these are the Pokémon that each of the aforementioned evolves into:

  • Nidorina evolves into Nidoqueen
  • Nidorino evolves into Nidoking
  • Clefairy evolves into Clefable
  • Jigglypuff evolves into Wigglytuff
  • Skitty evolves into Delcatty
