Finneon and Lumineon are practically useless in Pokémon Black and White 2 and are incredibly forgettable Pokémon. As the most common type in the series, this pure Water evolution line has plenty of competition. Out of all the options for team members, Finneon and Lumineon would be near the bottom, due to their poor stat distribution and mediocre move-pool. Black and White 2 made it even harder to use these fish Pokémon, by restricting their availability until after defeating the Elite Four.

The original Pokémon Black and White were hated by many fans upon their initial release. These games introduced a brand new Pokédex, leaving out fan favorites, like Charizard, until the end-game. Similarly, some of the designs for the Unovan Pokémon were marked as lazy, most notably the Vanilluxe evolution line. Generation 5 took a few risks in its game design and included, arguably, one of the best stories in the series. As the first direct sequel to a mainline game, Black and White 2 continued this narrative. These new versions added more features, while also including older Pokémon in the Unova Pokédex.

Finneon and Lumineon were not introduced in Gen 5, which makes sense that they were absent in Black and White's base game. The sequel did not have this excuse and, instead, made it impossible to catch them before beating the Elite Four in Pokémon Black and White 2. As Reddit user Aggli pointed out, trainers will most likely have level 60+ Pokémon at this point in the game. Finneon is caught at level 40, requiring plenty of grinding to use a sub-par team member. Lumineon, Finneon's evolution, has a base total of 460, with a poor stat distribution. These two may not be the best choice of Pokémon, but it would have been great to catch them earlier in the game. The love for Finneon and Lumineon can be seen in the comments of Aggli's post.

Why Catching A Finneon & Lumineon In Pokémon Gen 5 Is Bad

Despite their mediocre stats, these two Pokémon have beautiful designs, as they are modeled after the real-world Freshwater Butterflyfish. Players can only catch the pair after the Elite Four because Finneon and Lumineon are a Fishing encounter in Black and White 2Unlike in previous games, trainers receive one fishing rod instead of three, this being the Super Rod. In the post-game, players must speak to Cedric in Nuvema Town's Pokémon Lab. Both Finneon and Lumineon can be found by fishing in Route 4, 17, 18, P2 Lab, Virbank City, and Virbank Complex.

These butterflyfish Pokémon are overshadowed by the immense amount of Water-types introduced in each generation. While Finneon and Lumineon have a great design, they are held back by their small move-pool. It is entirely possible to play through a game without even encountering these monsters as well. Later generations have slightly improved this, but fans in Pokémon Black and White 2, may be better off using other team members.
