Players of Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl will finally be able to get their hands on mythical Pokémon Shaymin, at least legitimately, as the mystery gift containing Oak’s Letter will be distributed in the game soon. While Shaymin was already included in the game’s code when Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl released last year, encountering it required players to receive Oak’s Letter first through an event. The only other way to find and catch Shaymin early was to exploit a glitch in the game.

In the original Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, the legendary Grass/Psychic-type Pokémon was only obtainable by reaching Flower Paradise, which was only available once the player accepted the event-only item, Oak's Letter. Unfortunately, Oak’s Letter was never distributed in the original and was only made available in Pokémon Platinum, the solitary version of Diamond and Pearl, so players of the first two titles could only get Shaymin by using cheat codes. Similarly, Darkrai is also another Pokémon from Diamond and Pearl that required an event-only item to encounter but was only eventually distributed in Platinum. Furthermore, Darkrai is also in Pokémon BDSP and obtaining it remains the same, so players will need to wait for a future event to get the opportunity to catch it.

Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl publisher The Pokémon Company announced during the latest Pokémon Presents event that players will soon be receiving Oak’s Letter as a Mystery Gift, which will give them the opportunity to encounter and catch the mythical Pokémon Shaymin. According to the announcement, players will need to have at least two hours of playtime before the game’s Mystery Gift feature is unlocked, and an internet connection will be needed to receive the gift containing Oak’s Letter. Players will also need to enter the game’s Hall of Fame and obtain the National Pokedex. Additionally, only one Shaymin can be caught per save data.

Shaymin also makes an appearance in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, influencing how Floaroma Town began. Since the new game is set in the Hisui region, which is the ancient version of the Sinnoh region from Diamond and Pearl and their aforementioned remakes, it isn’t surprising that the mythical Pokémon would be present in Pokémon Legends: Arceus.

Now that Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl has distributed the much-awaited Oak’s Letter and finally allowed players to legitimately obtain Shaymin, it’s possible that Darkrai and the Member Card required to obtain it will soon follow. Fans will just have to wait and see what's next for the future of this Pokémon remake.
