Players can find and capture Porygon, Porygon2, and Porygon-Z in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. The thing that made the fourth generation so exciting when it was first released was that older Pokémon were receiving new evolutions. For the most part, several Pokémon in the series evolve from leveling up or trading. This generation introduced tons of new Held Items, locations, and unique evolutionary methods. For example, players looking to evolve their Piloswine into Mamoswine will first need to teach Ancient Power. This trend continues with the Porygon line, which originates from the first Pokémon titles.

Players will first need to complete the main story and become the Champion of the Sinnoh region. After that, players will need to get the National Dex by completing the Sinnoh Dex. This will change the region, and new Pokémon will spawn in places, including Porygon. To find Porygon, players will need to go to the Pokémon Mansion on Route 212. Speak with Mr. Backlot found on the right side of the Mansion, and he will provide a list of Pokémon. Porygon can appear on this list, and it cycles Pokémon every day. Head to the Trophy Garden in the back of the Pokémon Mansion to find Porygon.

Players will need a friend to trade to evolve Porygon towards the rest of its forms. Porygon requires players to hold an Upgrade item while trading to evolve into Porygon2. Trainers have to trade again to get Porygon2 to evolve into Porygon-Z, but it needs to hold a Dubious Disc this time. There is no other way to obtain these evolutions in Pokémon BDSP outside of trading.

For starters, players can obtain the Upgrade item from Eterna City and is the same location where players beat Gym Leader Gardenia earlier in BDSP's main story. Upon landing in the city, players can find a house on the western end where Professor Oak has set up. If players speak to him, they will receive the Upgrade item. Attach this to the Porygon and trade it with a friend to unlock Porygon2.

Now that Porygon2 is on the team, players will need to get the Dubious Disk. There are two different ways to obtain it in Pokémon BDSP. First, players can head over to Route 225 and find it after a short surf to a rocky edge. Players can simply walk down the steps near the rocky edge to find the item. Alternatively, players can also purchase the Dubious Disk in the Battle Park for 5 BP. Once players get their hands on the Dubious Disk, they need to give it to Porygon2 and trade it again with a friend, and Porygon-Z will emerge to complete the entire set.
