Finding 40 Digletts in the Underground will give players a special reward in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. The Underground is a location that appeared in the original Pokémon Diamond and Pearl but has returned in this remake with new content. In the Underground, players are able to explore caverns and hunt for rare items within the walls using a pickaxe. Not only that but Secret Bases have been brought back, allowing players to customize their own custom home within the Underground. While exploring, players might notice Digletts or Dugtrios appearing out of the ground.
On the left side of the screen below the map, players will notice a counter that goes up to 40. When collecting a single Diglett, this will raise the counter up by 1. If players were to collect a Dugtrio, this counter will raise by 3. Digletts spawn randomly in the Underground but only appear outside of dens. In order to find them, players will need to sprint around the Underground and hope they encounter them.
If players are able to collect 40 and fill the meter, a few different things will happen in Pokémon Diamond or Pearl. For starters, the game will notify the player that a special bonus has been activated on the top right of the screen. Now that it's available, there will be an increased chance to find a Gorgeous Stone Box while mining and the Shiny rate will increase as well.
Collecting 40 Digletts (& What It Does) in Pokémon BDSP
Inside of the Gorgeous Stone Boxes will be a Shiny Pokémon Statue that players can place inside of their Secret Bases. Placing them within the Secret Base will increase the chance of finding that type of Pokémon within the Underground. For example, players who put up a Clefairy Statue within their Secret Base will increase the spawn rate of Fairy-type Pokémon since Clefairy is a Fairy-type.
Players are also given a bonus chance of finding Shiny Pokémon when the bonus is active. Shiny Pokémon are alternate colored variations of Pokémon that are incredibly rare to come across. There is only a 1/4096 chance of encountering one. Although with this bonus active, the chances of finding a Shiny Pokémon are increased. It's important to mention that players who are in dens when the bonus is activated will need to leave the room for the chance of a Shiny appearing. This will make it so the game reshuffles the room and can include a Shiny within it.
This bonus will only remain active for 4 minutes. Once it's over, players will need to find another 40 Digletts to reactivate it. Players can play in the Diamond and Pearl underground and find rare spawns with friends, and whatever Digletts they collect will be added towards the total counter. This means playing with friends will make it much faster to find 40 Diglett. Work together and collect them all to bring the bonus back. This has become a new favorite Shiny Hunting method for many Pokémon fans.
