Warning: contains spoilers for Poison Ivy #7The second arc of Poison Ivy's newest radical adventure just began with a bang, as Pamela Isley gets into a life-or-death situation that only her girlfriend Harley Quinn can save her from in a tragic cliffhanger at the end of Poison Ivy #7.

Poison Ivy's first arc involved the titular anti-hero attempting to murder all of humanity in a last ditch attempt to save the planet Earth, and the series was so popular and critically acclaimed that DC announced an immediate second 6-issue arc before Poison Ivy #6 ever released. Throughout the first six issues Pamela narrated her tragic story through an emotional letter to her love Harley Quinn, which ended with Quinn determinedly setting off to find Ivy and help her, which is needed now more than ever.

Poison Ivy #7 - written by G. Willow Wilson with art by Atagun Ilhan and Arif Prianto - starts off where Ivy's last exciting arc ended, with Pamela having finally killed her long time nemesis and abuser Jason Woodrue. Poison Ivy ending the life of the Floronic Man - the twisted former professor who tortured and traumatized Isley through experimentation and turned her into Poison Ivy - made the anti-hero realize that humanity is part of The Green, and that instead of working to destroy mankind she should instead be targeting the select few human monsters who run the corporations that work to destroy nature. At the start of the issue Ivy is able to use Woodrue's power (which she gained after eating his plant flesh) to rid her body of the toxic lamia mushroom spores she was holding within her as a biological weapon, allowing Ivy to continue her journey towards environmental salvation by going after an evil fracking company called "FutureGas." After discovering that something in FutureGas' fracking process caused humans to transform into the horrific plant monsters that attacked her in Poison Ivy #4, Pamela gets a job at the company as a landscaper before sneaking into the office of Beatrice Crowley, a woman with a dangerous secret.

Poison Ivy Is In Dire Need Of Saving

Poison Ivy Dying of lamia spores in Poison Ivy #7

After snooping around Crawley's office and discovering a hidden sample of a lamia mushroom Ivy is caught red-handed by Crawley herself, who quickly reveals to Ivy that she is also a former student of Woodrue, and while she does not have Pamela's abilities, she does know how to thoroughly disable her. Just as Poison Ivy transforms into her monstrous plant form in an attempt to stop Crawley once and for all, Crawley sprays Pamela with a compound that renders her abilities inert - ceasing her healing connection to the Green - which allows the toxic lamia spores hiding in Ivy's body to take over, and seemingly kill Poison Ivy. The teaser for next issue reveals it will be "an out-of-body experience," and since lamia spores make the afflicted have intense hallucinations, it seems likely that next issue could be one that takes place entirely inside Pamela's mind. Regardless, Ivy's physical body is slowly dying due to her over exposure to the lamia, and she is in need of a miracle, and it is more than likely her miracle will come in the form of a Harley Quinn rescue! Harley has been on Ivy's trail since she finished reading her letter in Poison Ivy #6 and with no one else coming to Ivy's rescue, Quinn is going to need to step up her search and save Ivy from her own biological weapon.

The iconic Poison Ivy is finally back to being a meaningful anti-hero - doing important work to take down capitalist monsters hellbent on destroying the planet - so she needs the help of her industrious love interest Harley Quinn now more than ever.
