The PlayStation Store is offering major discounts on several prominent 2020 video games as part of its official holiday sale. It's a good time for sales like this; the Epic Games Store has been running its own holiday special for days now, and just today Steam launched its traditional Winter Sale, one of the biggest the website runs. It's a good season for gamers and a bad season for their wallets.

It's also an important time for PlayStation, which just launched its newest console, the PlayStation 5. The next-gen machine offers a lot of significant advantages over its predecessor, but its launch has not gone smoothly. In addition to the usual early bugs and faults that accompany the release of a major piece of hardware, major retailers have found it impossible to keep the PS5 in stock. Demand for the machine is absurd, and scalpers have also programmed bots to fill their carts the instant consoles become available, making off with hundreds of the devices before legitimate customers get a chance to buy one. These unscrupulous scalpers have made about $60 million in combined profits since the launch of the PS5 and its competitor the Xbox Series X/S.

But even though the hardware side of things is struggling, it's been a good year for the games themselves. PlayStation is celebrating this with the Holiday Sale, live now on the PlayStation Store. The sale is offering up to 70% off major titles from throughout 2020, and it lasts until January 19th, giving fans ample opportunity to pick up some deals. Fans can enjoy 50% off of Game of the Year contender Final Fantasy VII Remake and winner The Last Of Us Part II. Beloved JRPG Persona 5 Royal is also 50% off, and just like in the Steam sale, fans can get a 67% discount on Doom Eternal.

Persona 5 Team Dynamic

All the biggest games of 2020 are present in this sale, but there's one notable absence. Cyberpunk 2077 remains delisted from the PlayStation Store following its controversial launch earlier this month. The versions of the game that ran on PS4 and Xbox One were found to be riddled with glitches and bugs. CDPR scrambled to offer refunds, and in an unprecedented move, Sony actually pulled the game from the PlayStation Store and offered refunds to all customers. This was a very surprising and controversial development, and one that Sony has yet to reverse.

But there are plenty of other deals to enjoy on the PlayStation Store this holiday season. There have been a lot of high-quality games released during 2020, and the PlayStation Holiday Special gives fans a great chance to celebrate the year in gaming and give them something to do until they can finally get their hands on a PS5.
