Sony is set to reveal the future of PlayStation games and the PS5 at September 9's PlayStation Showcase. There were few details officially revealed so far, but Sony made it known that the next generation of PlayStation VR would not be shown. What those who tune in to watch the PlayStation Showcase can expect, however, is roughly 40 minutes of trailers and gameplay from PlayStation games coming in the last few months of 2021 and beyond.

Only two big titles remain on the list for 2021 PlayStation 5 games: Deathloop and Death Stranding Director's CutDeathloop has already had plenty of coverage and is scheduled for release on September 14. If it gets a slot at the PlayStation Showcase, it may be for a Deathloop launch trailer. Death Stranding Director's Cut is also in a strange situation, since a final trailer edited by Hideo Kojima himself is on the way, but is set to arrive on September 8. Sony could very well show the trailer still, but already released footage doesn't seem like a wise way to use part of the 40-minute runtime.

Horizon Forbidden West is likely to get some attention at the PlayStation Showcase, since it recently had its February 18, 2022 release date announced. Many are also expecting the Showcase to be where the untitled God of War sequel re-emerges. It was officially announced at the PS5 Showcase a year ago, and there has been almost no additional news except regarding its delay into 2022. Gran Turismo 7 also seems likely to appear, since it's in the same boat as God of War. It was shown off during the PS5 Showcase, but also has been missing from headlines ever since.

Third-Party Games That Could Be At PlayStation Showcase

Why The PlayStation Showcase Isn't A State Of Play

Spider-Man and The Last of Us round out the big-name first-party franchises that seem likely to appear. Spider-Man: Miles Morales launched alongside the PS5 less than a year ago, and Insomniac just recently released Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, but the studio is generally known to churn out games at a good pace, and a trailer could do nothing more than confirm the existence of Marvel's Spider-Man 2. If Naughty Dog was going to make an appearance at the PlayStation Showcase, it would likely be to provide an update on when to expect The Last of Us Part 2's multiplayer component, which was missing from the base game due to the project becoming too ambitious.

There are a number of third-party games that could also be shown at the PlayStation Showcase, Grand Theft Auto V chief among them. GTA 5 is scheduled for a new-gen release sometime this year, though a release date hasn't yet been given. Last year's presentation led with GTA 5, throwing many for a loop when it looked like an imminent GTA 6 announcement. Aside from GTA 5, the other likely candidates are smaller third-party projects.

Sifu, a game focused on hand-to-hand combat from Developer Sloclap, was revealed at last year's PlayStation Showcase as well, and has a possibility to return, though a new trailer recently revealed Sifu's 2022 release date at Gamescom 201's Opening Night Live. Kena: Bridge of Spirits is a PlayStation console exclusive, and hasn't had any new footage revealed in a while, so it seems likely to get a spot at the Showcase. Two other PlayStation console exclusives - Solar Ash and Jett: The Far Shore - are also releasing soon, and could use some pre-launch hype from the highly anticipated PlayStation Showcase.
