Sony has confirmed that June's PlayStation Plus free titles are Star Wars: Battlefront II and Call of Duty: WWII. After last month's slightly disappointing free game picks, June seems like it will be very popular with PlayStation 4 owners who don't already own these titles.

Sony and Microsoft have been competing heavily over the last several years with their own monthly free games and subscription services. Microsoft's Xbox Games Pass and Games With Gold tend to give out bigger games every month to its players like this month when the free games were Red Dead Redemption 2, Halo 2, and Final Fantasy 9. This wildly overshadowed Sony's May picks of Cities: Skylines and Farming Simulator 19. The fact that Microsoft tends to pick bigger and more popular games might explain why Xbox Games Pass is more popular than PlayStation Now.

Depending on what Microsoft chooses, Sony may have won this month with their picks of Call of Duty: WWII and Star Wars Battlefront II. Both titles are still fairly popular and were considered two of the best shooters of 2017 when they released. Call of Duty: WWII is technically already being offered for free at the moment and players will be able to download it through July 6th. Battlefront II will not be offered until June 2nd on PlayStation Plus, but it will also be available until July.

Call of Duty WWII was praised for its return to the simpler time of World War II focused shooters, as many felt that the Call of Duty franchise had been bogged down by its focus on futuristic weaponry and settings. Some felt that the story was generic, but ultimately the response was positive. Battlefield 2 on the other hand was initially rejected by many fans for its use of predatory lootboxes and a broken progression system. After years of work though it not only improved but, in many gamers opinions, Battlefront 2 became a great video game.

This month will probably shape up to be a very big one for PlayStation Plus. Many gamers are going to be able to jump into these titles either for the first time in awhile or the first time ever. This is even better for those who are still playing the games, because there will be a massive influx of new players to play against. Players should be ready to put boots on the ground in June with both Star Wars Battlefront 2 and Call of Duty: WWII.
