Year-long memberships for Sony’s PlayStation Plus subscription service will be discounted on Black Friday, with deals being offered at several different retail outlets. PlayStation Plus is Sony’s online game subscription service that simultaneously offers game downloads alongside access to online multiplayer on PlayStation consoles. The service offers a steady list of games like Days Gone and Batman: Arkham Knight included in the subscription fee, as well as a rotating list of new games every month. Sony offers PlayStation Plus at around $5 per month with the year-long membership, but PlayStation owners can score it at a discounted rate very soon.

Though PlayStation Plus’ steady list of games can already be seen as a draw, many subscribers are more interested in the monthly games that arrive on the first Tuesday of each month. November 2021’s PlayStation Plus lineup was beefed up by the 5th anniversary of PSVR, with Sony tossing in VR hits like Until You Fall, The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners, and The Persistence, alongside its usual lineup of three games. November subscribers are able to download the VR titles and Knockout City, Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning, and First Class Trouble throughout the month.

According to Game Rant, Black Friday ads show that certain retailers are offering year-long subscriptions to PlayStation Plus at a discounted rate. Walmart’s Black Friday ad states the retailer is offering the $59.99 subscription at $39.99, a $20 discount. Target is also offering Sony’s online gaming service at the same discounted rate. A leak also suggested that, like last year, the PlayStation Store will have its own sale, which will offer PS Plus at the same 33% discount from November 19 to November 29. It was suggested that the deal will be offered worldwide.

PlayStation Plus Black Friday discount

A Black Friday sale is not uncommon for PlayStation Plus, as the subscription service has seen discounts on several different holidays throughout the year, as well as years of the past. For fans looking to capitalize on the discount, it is possible to purchase multiple PlayStation Plus subscriptions all at once, subscribing to the service at the discounted $39.99 rate for multiple years in advance. Considering PS Plus subscribers received over $1,900 worth of PlayStation titles this year, the discounted rate can be considered fairly enticing for some.

PlayStation Plus should not be confused with PS Now, Sony’s game-streaming subscription service. PS Plus is primarily focused on offering subscribers the ability to play online multiplayer on their PlayStation console, though free-to-play games like Fortnite and Warzone do not require a PS Plus subscription. Conversely, PS Now offers an ever-changing library of games that can be streamed without downloading them to a PlayStation console. The PS Now service can be more closely compared to Xbox Game Pass, while PlayStation Plus is closer to something like Nintendo Online or the previous Xbox Gold service.
