God of War: Ragnarok details are coming later this summer, according to PlayStation. The company announced a brand new State of Play but was quick to note that games like Horizon: Forbidden West and God of War: Ragnarok would not be in attendance, though it teased more details for those titles is coming soon.

Due to the ever-changing nature of the last year and a half as well as PlayStation 5's limited availability, PlayStation has been trying to say as little as possible about its two big upcoming titles seemingly out of fear of big changes or delays. Sony already delayed God of War: Ragnarok to 2022 after promising a 2021 release, but the writing was on the wall given the game only has a placeholder title with zero footage or any concrete details regarding gameplay or story. With that said, Sony seems to be getting ready to show something soon.

After prolonged silence on the title, Sony followed up its newest State of Play announcement by saying that neither God of War: Ragnarok or Horizon: Forbidden West would appear in the showcase. Instead, details on those titles will be happening later this summer. It's unclear if this is another State of Play or simply a standard trailer, but it's likely the platform holder will take that time to date Horizon: Forbidden West and begin to give an idea of whatever God of War will look like. Rumors have indicated that Sony will show off gameplay for God of War: Ragnarok, but Sony has yet to confirm what will be shown.

If Sony is preparing to show gameplay, it could indicate that the delay for God of War: Ragnarok isn't as severe as many may have suspected. The game may release in early 2022, similar to the last entry which was released in April of 2018. Although there's no way to say for certain, given how Sony held back on Horizon gameplay until recently, the team may be waiting to show the game until it has a clear path to release. Of course, this is speculation and it could just be a simple CG trailer.

Director Cory Barlog stated he was the one who chose to delay God of War: Ragnarokso Sony and he may be working closely to determine what they want to show off first. The 2018 entry was revealed with a pretty substantial gameplay demo that welcomed players into Krato's new stage of life and really set the tone for what the game would be. Perhaps there's a chance the reveal of God of War: Ragnarok will have a similar meaty look.
