A job listing for a Head of Mobile position indicates PlayStation Studios is looking to expand its reach into the mobile side of the gaming business. Make no mistake, the PlayStation brand and mobile gaming aren't exactly strangers. Many may recall PlayStation Mobile Inc. publishing Uncharted Fortune Hunter on Android and iOS in May 2016.

Similar to Square Enix's mobile endeavors with Hitman Go and Lara Croft Go, Uncharted Fortune Hunter placed a blocky Nathan Drake in a grid-based puzzle adventure replete with deadly traps and other obstacles for players to master. The mobile title launched in the days leading up to the release of Uncharted 4: A Thief's End, offering fans a new way of experiencing the challenges often associated with the franchise's puzzle mechanics. PlayStation Mobile Inc. has brought other projects to the market in recent years as well, namely Run Sackboy! Run! and PlayStation-centric apps such as Remote Play and PlayStation PlayLink. Clearly, Sony thinks it may be able to extract more value from this particular vertical of its gaming brand.

As spotted by Niko Partners Senior Analyst Daniel Ahmad, SIE recently posted a job listing on Greenhouse for a Head of Mobile position. The posting doesn't offer much in the way of concrete details, but asks if applicants have a desire to "lead the development and strategy of mobile gaming and help shape the future of gaming for a world-class studio?" Whomever Sony hires will also lead the expansion of game development across console, PC, mobile, and Live Service platforms. According to the application, the Head of Mobile can additionally expect to lead a "team of mobile leaders" who will prove integral to a "new business unit within PlayStation Studios."

The job listing suggests Sony is willing to invest valuable resources in expanding its presence in the mobile gaming space. When considering the staggering success of Call of Duty: Mobile and PUBG Mobile, it's easy to see why the hardware manufacture would take an interest in such a viable area of the business.

Despite the wide range of possibilities, this news may not sit well with some fans. Reports of the brand's higher-ups allegedly over-emphasizing big blockbuster releases has many PlayStation faithful ringing the klaxon, pondering whether or not the overconfident PlayStation of the PS3 era is once again rearing its head.
