The PlayStation 5’s DualSense controller can mimic a variety of sensations thanks to its haptic feedback, but players might not know that it can buzz along with music on Spotify as well. This haptic feedback was one of the many selling points to Sony’s newest console, which has managed to gain a leg up on the competing Xbox Series X/S despite an ongoing shortage of units.

The DualSense's haptic feedback is primarily used to simulate the feel of in-game environments, like the splash of raindrops or the kick of a laser blaster being fired. Adding to this robust feedback are the controller's adaptive triggers, which can put up resistance to mimic a bowstring being drawn back or a gun jamming up. Both of these features have been praised for adding a sense of realism to PlayStation 5 play sessions, and they are even being patched into PC ports of titles like Metro Exodus: Enhanced Edition.

According to The Verge, the PlayStation 5’s DualSense controller can also be used to enhance one’s music experience on Spotify. When the controller is plugged into a PC with a USB-C cable, a Spotify user can set it as their auto input and turn on a special “Enhancement” setting in the Control Panel. Once this is done, the user can open up their Spotify app and enjoy their DualSense’s haptic feedback buzzing along with their music just as it does while playing Returnal or Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales.

Aside from enhancing the music-listening experience, the DualSense has already gained a healthy presence on PC thanks to support from platforms like Steam. The controller can also be used as a microphone, eliminating the need to buy overpriced equipment in this current age of web calls and hardware shortages. Meanwhile, Spotify sits at the top of music streaming services and has even been used as a bonus for Xbox Game Pass subscribers in the past.

The PlayStation 5’s DualSense controller is already a marvel of engineering and functionality thanks to its haptic feedback, and its newfound use as a way of enhancing music on Spotify is just another neat wrinkle to the controller. The ability to feel the controller pulse and vibrate to the beat of a favorite song can add to the listening experience in a way that few other devices can provide, and it could lead to the PlayStation 5’s DualSense becoming the controller of choice for PC owners.
