Microsoft confirmed that PUBG Corp's PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds (PUBG) is finally making the long-awaited transition to consoles with a release on Xbox One this year.

PUBG is currently in Early Access on Steam and commands a huge following of dedicated, die-hard fans with millions of players around the world. In the game, 100 players are crammed onto a single airplane that flies over an island and players have the ability to jump out and skydive down to the surface wherever they'd like. Each game, the plane flies a different path and you have a different collection of players, which ensures that no two games will ever be the same.

Brendan Greene (otherwise known as the titular PlayerUnknown) announced the port's official release date of December 12th, 2017 this week at Paris Games Week (PGW) in France. Players often make comparisons to The Hunger Games and the entire sub-genre of games has earned its own title, simply known as "Battle Royale" games.

While exploring the island, players have to scavenge for supplies such as guns, armor, and medkits in order to survive. After a while an electric field starts to slowly close in on everyone, encircling the remaining players, until only one person or one team is left. It's an exhilarating, pulse-pounding game that's already inspired copy cats and knock-offs and it's technically not even fully released yet, currently labeled as an Early Access title.

When it releases on Xbox One it will be available on the Xbox Game Preview program, and as a celebration for the upcoming console release, PUBG Corp. have created a handful of optional cosmetic packs that will be exclusive to Xbox One players: the PUBG Warrior Pack, the PUBG Accessory Pack and the PUBG Tracksuit Pack.

"These packs are exclusive to Xbox fans as standalone offers available for a limited time and as there are no plans to feature any in-game purchases in the Xbox Game Preview version, are the only items that can be purchased during the preview period," said Chang Han Kim, CEO of PUBG Corp. "We’re super excited to be able to bring these to Xbox One fans who have been eagerly awaiting the game as a special thank you for your patience and passion for PUBG."
