Since then, Fortnite, Call of Duty, Apex Legends, and many others have joined the fray in what is now quite possibly the most popular video game genre in the world today. This game remains near the top of that list, although there's still a lot fans don't know ab0ut PUBG. For instance, there is a secret plot and story hidden just below the surface.
Since the beginning, it was clear that something was going on within the island that the warriors of PUBG fought on. Now, players know for a fact that there is indeed a secret plot behind the circumstances of each PUBG battle. Fans have long speculated what that might be, but now, they finally have a definitive answer.
A trailer for PUBG's fourth season revealed all fans need to know about the history of the island every match originally took place on - Erangel. Throughout this trailer, gamers are given a glimpse into the one man responsible for all the mayhem and destruction that goes on within PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds' world... or, at least, the first island.
PUBG Lore: The Man Behind The Scenes
The man behind the scenes of the battlegrounds in PUBG, who remains unnamed, grew up on Erangel. In 1965, during his youth, Erangel was bombed and the man lost his entire family. With everything he knew and loved destroyed, the man was hardened and became attracted to violence. Towards the end of the trailer, it is revealed that this unnamed man now appears to own all of Erangel. From a control room with numerous monitors, he watches every PUBG player as they attempt to kill each other. This is all for his entertainment, all because a war destroyed his childhood and turned him into some sort of sick sociopath.
PUBG Lore: In-Game Evidence
Looking around the island of Erangel in PUBG, players can see the evidence of this story being true. All of the buildings are old and torn apart from the war that the mysterious benefactor of the battle royale witnessed as a child. The guns and items placed all over the map were likely put there by the man behind the scenes, or, more likely, a team he employs, in an effort to make the everyone-for-themselves battle all the more interesting to watch. Much like the viewers in the Battle Royale film, he likely wants the action to be as entertaining as possible.
This extra bit of story that has been added behind the scenes of PUBG makes the game so much more rewarding of an experience. As a popular multiplayer game, PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds didn't have to go this far to add a little something extra to the gaming experience. Nonetheless, the developers did, and it's one of the reasons that PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds is one of the best battle royale games of all time.
