Andy Serkis' Caesar was first introduced in 2011's Rise of the Planet of the Apes and would appear in two direct sequels, with the actor eventually saying farewell to the role with Matt Reeves' 2017 trilogy-capper. The franchise is set to continue with Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, which is slated to release in 2024.According to a new report from THR, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes will continue to explore the impact that Caesar had on his community of apes and the world at large.

In addition to revealing that the story will involve some apes who have twisted Caesar's legacy in order to further their own imperialist agendas. The report also reveals that Jurassic World Dominion and Severance actor Dichen Lachman is the latest actor to join the cast. Check out the new story details below:

The new Apes movie is set many years after the conclusion of 2017’s War for the Planet of the Apes. Many apes societies have grown from when the Moses-like Caesar brought his people to an oasis, while humans have been reduced to a feral-like existence. Some groups have never heard of Caesar, while others have contorted his teaching to build burgeoning empires.

In this setting, one ape leader begins to enslave other groups to find human technology, while another ape, who watched his clan be taken, embarks on a journey to find freedom. A young human woman becomes key to latter’s quest, although she has plans of her own.

The upcoming fourth film in the popular franchise is directed by Wes Ball, who is best known for directing The Maze Runner and its two sequels. Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is written by Josh Friedman, Patrick Aison, Rick Jaffa, and Amanda Silver, the latter two of which comprise the husband-and-wife writing duo behind the script for Avatar: The Way of Water. In addition to some strong talent behind the camera, the upcoming sequel also boasts an impressive cast.

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes will feature Freya Allen in a starring role, with the young actor recently appearing in The Witcher opposite Henry Cavill. Also confirmed to appear in the upcoming sequel are Kevin Durand, William H. Macy, Owen Teague, Peter Macon, Sara Wiseman, and Eka Darville, among others. Unfortunately, it's currently unclear who most of these actors will be playing in Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, but Teague is expected to play Caesar's son, Cornelius.

Filming for Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is currently underway in Australia, but it's unclear where exactly the movie will be set. The first promotional image released for the film would, however, suggest that an overgrown urban setting could feature prominently in the story. The upcoming sequel is expected to serve as the start of a new Planet of the Apes trilogy for Disney, but it's unclear whether Ball and the movie's writers will continue to work on future installments.
