Everything We Know About Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes will be director Ball’s first time directing a Planet of the Apes film. Ball made his feature debut in 2014 with The Maze Runner and then directed two sequels, Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials and Maze Runner: The Death Cure. Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes’ main cast includes William H. Macy (Shameless), Freya Allen (The Witcher), Kevin Durand (I am Number Four, X-Men Origins: Wolverine), and Dichen Lachman (Jurassic World: Dominion, Severance).

Specific characters for these actors are currently unknown. The plot has also not been officially published, but a recent report on Planet of the Apes 4 revealed a few more details about what might happen. According to the report, the film is set many years after the events of War for the Planet of the Apes and will explore Caesar’s legacy and its mistreatment by some ape societies. As a sequel to what was thought to be a trilogy, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes will have to overcome some barriers in order to create a story as magnificent as there was in War for the Planet of the Apes. The film will not be able to rely on Andy Serkis’ stellar depiction of Caesar since the character died in War for the Planet of the Apes.

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes’ solution to this appears to be setting the film long after the events of the original trilogy. However, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes may follow Cornelius, Caesar's last living child, who will likely play a role in continuing his father's legacy. Owen Teague will play an older Cornelius. Though built within the framework of an existing story world, Ball and the creative team have to create an entirely new plot and a set of characters - aside from Cornelius. As Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes approaches its May 2024 release date, it will slowly be revealed whether Ball in the team has seized the open opportunity or floundered in the process.
