A Plague Tale: Innocence came out a couple years ago with little hype, being an indie game surrounded by big games like Control and Sekiro: Shadow's Die Twice. However, the game made a surprising impact in the gaming community, with Adobo Studio delivering focused gameplay and a heartfelt story for players to enjoy. Now the game has gotten even better, with PlayStation and Xbox Series X/S getting native versions with many improvements.

A Plague Tale: Innocence originally launched on PS4, Xbox One, and PC in 2019, following the emotional journey of Amicia and her younger brother Hugo during the Hundreds' Year War. The pair must escape from enemy Inquisition soldiers throughout France, all while avoiding hordes of rats that are vessels for the deadly Black Plague. Gameplay is a mixture of stealth sections reminiscent of The Last of Us and puzzle-solving, with a few combat-focused boss battles sprinkled into the mix.

Despite little hype surrounding the project, A Plague Tale: Innocence was a success for Focus Home Interactive and Asobo Studio, gaining positive critical acclaim and being nominated for Best Narrative at The Game Awards in 2019. A sequel to the game titled A Plague Tale: Requiem was announced during the Xbox E3 Showcase this year, and is set to release on current-gen consoles in 2022.

Notable Improvements In A Plague Tale: Innocence

A Plague Tale: Innocence received an update for Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 on July 6. Originally running at 4K and 30 fps on last-gen consoles, the update now allows players to experience the game in 4K at 60 fps. Other visual enhancements have been added to the game as well, with improved lighting effects and more detailed character models that make Amicia and Hugo's adventure more realistic for players.

3D audio has also been added into A Plague Tale: Innocenceallowing for a more immersive experience as players listen to the actor's performances and the engaging soundtrack. Faster load times have been implemented into the game, letting fans jump into the action even quicker than before. PlayStation 5 owners get additional updates with new DualSense support, with the haptic feedback in the controller syncing with Amicia's slingshot swings and adaptive triggers replicating her footsteps during running sequences.

A Plague Tale: Innocence also utilizes cross-save, meaning that any progress made on last-gen consoles can be carried over onto the newer consoles. Adding upgrades to A Plague Tale: Innocence is a smart play by Asobo Studio, giving PS5 and Xbox Series X/S owners incentive to play the game for the first time. With the game available as a PlayStation Plus title in July as well as being featured on Xbox Game Pass, there are many ways that players can experience A Plague Tale: Innocence before the sequel comes out.
