Plague Inc.: Evolved is a real-time strategy simulation game created by Ndemic Creations and is defined by its two main modes. In the main mode, players have to develop a plague that will infect and wipe out humanity before a cure is developed. They can choose from bacteria, virus, fungal, parasite, prion, nano-virus, or even a bio-weapon. On the opposite end is the cure mode, where players have to research and put together a vaccine before the pathogen wipes out the planet or they're thrown out of power. With Plague Inc.: Evolved being released on consoles in 2019, it has evolved and it's now much more than a simple mobile game.
Plague Inc.: Evolved has four difficulties with three being the main ones used. Casual, for players just starting out or wanting to complete a quick game or two, normal, for experienced players wanting a bit of a challenge, and brutal, for veteran players looking to up their game. However, the fourth difficulty is mega brutal. In mega brutal difficulty, doctors invest in research, genetic drifts impact evolution, and the population has random checkups. This means, in the main mode, that the pathogen can be discovered very early on if the player isn't careful. In Cure mode, non-compliance runs rampant and your authority drains rapidly without special care and precision. This guide will focus on the main mode and teach players how to make a nearly invisible pathogen to take out the world.
Plague Inc. Evolved: How To Win On Mega Brutal Difficulty
The key is to infect as many people as possible as fast as possible before the plague is discovered. Symptoms should be avoided at all costs unless their pathogen is discovered, then players need to unlock as many infection spreading symptoms as possible. Once the player has infected everybody, or at least most of the population, then they can start adding in deadly symptoms. If the player adds in deadly symptoms too fast then the infected will all die before everybody could be infected. The top three symptoms to spread the disease are coughing, sneezing, and vomiting. Together, they make a combo called projectile vomiting that spreads the pathogen even further. The top three deadly symptoms are total organ failure, coma, and dysentery. These symptoms have proven to take out people rapidly and are best saved for when 80% or more of the population is already infected.
The next thing players need to do is to upgrade resistances, especially the drug resistances. These will heighten the effectiveness of the pathogen and will pave the way for other resistances that can slow down cure research or even reverse it. The temperature resistances are useful early on in the game when the player's main focus is infection. With bacteria, there's also a generalized climate shell they can use. Players do need to be careful, though, when enabling certain items while having the virus type as their plague because it will cause the virus to mutate symptoms and that can be a bad thing if it's still the beginning of the game and the virus needs to spread quietly and quickly. Symptoms will need to be deactivated and that costs DNA points with viruses.
Loud and fast symptoms are a really bad idea when playing in the mega brutal difficulty because it will be detected fast and cured fast. To beat the game in mega brutal mode, players will need to start their plague out silently and develop resistance quickly, then immediately start going deadly once the whole population is infected. Spread the pathogen quickly, then evolve it to become deadly. Mega brutal difficulty has its name for a reason, and the game is relentless in trying to make sure the player fails. But if players follow these tips, their pathogen might just have a chance and they'll rise up to a rank in which few people share.
