As players work on the most creative and ambitious builds in either survival or creative mode of Raft, they may run into the "You can't place floors without support" alert. In the 2018 survival game Raft, the player character wakes up on a raft in the middle of the ocean and must collect materials, craft better building materials and items to help fulfill their basic needs, and avoid being attacked and eaten by the shark who terrorizes the raft. As players work to improve the raft, they may try to place a floor and realize they don't have a solid foundation to build it. However, players can build a floating platform that stands without any support, without needing to use cheats or install mods.

Normally, regular square floor tiles will crumble when support is taken away. However, the triangular wedge half-floor tiles don't. Players can use this exploit to build functional rafts with floating floors that seem to hover in midair over the open water. Players can do this either in creative or survival mode, but because it requires a lot of materials, it may take players a longer time to complete in survival. Here's how to build floating floors in Raft.

How to Place Floating Floors in Raft

Players can use an exploit to build floating floors to their rafts in either survival or creative mode in Raft

This build can work with or without an anchor and only requires a single platform tile with a ladder or set of stairs to be used as a basic foundation. Typically, in survival mode, players will want to include a spot for an anchor, while in creative mode, this can be skilled. In addition, if players intend to move their floating raft to explore the nearby islands, they will also need a rudder or sail. Like the anchor, this can often be skipped entirely while in creative mode.

Players will need to lay a foundation using platforms. The size of the platform will determine the size of the raft, so players should make this platform as large as they want their final vessel to be. They will want to leave a 1x1 or 2x1 area jutting off the side of the otherwise square or rectangular platform, which will be for the stairs or ladder. Players in survival mode will want to make this a little bit bigger to accommodate the anchor and, if they choose, the rudder.

Next, players will need to place pillars everywhere on the platform. These can be added in between each platform tile. Players need to be sure not to miss any single space, or the floating floor will not work.

Then, using the triangular corner half-floor tiles, players should walk around the platform, through the pillars, and place the floor at the top of the pillars. They can use two half-floor pieces to make one full floor piece above them. Like with the pillars, they will need to be sure not to leave a single space without a floor tile.

Once the flooring has been placed, they should build the ladder or stairs to connect the top and the bottom. Then, they will need to return to the bottom and use their hammer to destroy all the pillars first, then all the platform tiles except for the ones holding the ladder or stairs.

Players should be able to move and steer the raft as long as they included a rudder or sail. Players can see this technique in action by watching the video tutorial by YouTuber Combo Hivemind below:

While there are mods players can install to skip the pillars stage, this is the simplest way to build floating floors in Raft without any outside help. It can also allow players to get creative with their builds and design fantastic and ostentatious vessels to use in their explorations.
