A 'Pixel Notepad' is rumored to be in development and Google's foldable phone could be less expensive than previously expected. Flexible screen phones are exploding onto the scene with more new foldables than ever expected this year. However, several may never reach the US market. Oppo's Find N, Huawei's Mate X2, and Xiaomi's Mi Mix Fold are made in China and are not available in the United States.
Samsung is clearly leading the US market for foldables and taking a large share worldwide. The Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3 have solved enough concerns that the phones come well recommended and have good customer satisfaction. Motorola's Razr is still in the picture after a rocky start, providing some competition for the Z Flip 3. Likewise, Microsoft has an updated Surface Duo 2 that answers the Z Fold 3, albeit with a physical split between the two sides of the display. Either way, there is plenty of room for a new foldable in the US and perhaps Google will step into that space.
There have been several interesting rumors floating around about a folding Google Pixel, starting around the same time as Pixel 6 leaks and most are in agreement about some of the basic specifications. Pricing was generally assumed to be in line with Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 3, but a new report from 9to5Google suggests it could be significantly lower. The price leak supposedly comes from two unnamed sources and agree that it will be $1400. That's $400 lower than Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 3 but $500 more than the Pixel 6 Pro.
More Pixel Fold Details
Google teased the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro long before it was available to order but nothing has been said openly about a foldable Pixel. There have, however, been suggestive leaks found within Android's code. Other information has arrived in the form of rumors and taken all together, a pretty good profile is developing of what to expect from the so-called 'Pixel Notepad.' The device will be focused on its flexible nature and isn't expected to boast the same camera prowess as the Pixel 6 series phones. Leaks suggest something more along the lines of the Pixel 5 camera, which is still quite impressive.
The processor of a Pixel Notepad will almost certainly be a Google Tensor, which had proven to be a powerful chip that stands proudly alongside Samsung and Qualcomm's best chips from 2021. It's unknown whether Google will update the Tensor or use the first generation in the supposed 2022 foldable Pixel. The aspect ratio has also leaked in code, with SIM card instructions revealing a nearly square shape when unfolded. A Google Pixel Notepad continues to sound intriguing and is expected to launch sometime in 2022.
