Google has confirmed a Pixel Fall Launch event is taking place on October 19th to officially unveil the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro series smartphones. The two phones have been making the leak rounds for months now, and Google hasn’t been shy about teasing the phones either. After releasing some high-resolution renders of the two upcoming phones, the company also shed some light on its in-house Tensor chip that will be packed inside both, and has promised some impressive imaging capabilities as well.
The company was bold enough to exhibit the Pixel 6 Pro at one of its retail stores weeks ahead of launch, while billboards have also been popping up across multiple cities as well. Rick Osterloh, Senior Vice President of Devices & Services at Google, has already provided a hint that the Pixel 6 series will focus on offering the best software and top-of-the-line hardware, and that these phones will be bonafide premium devices. Google has gone all-in with the design aspect too, and will be aiming to fight for the crown of the best camera smartphone with the likes of the iPhone 13 Pro Max and Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra.
All that hype-building will culminate on Oct. 19, the day on which the Pixel 6 series is officially set to be introduced with all information about its camera chops, software tricks, asking price, and release date in tow. The event starts at 10 am PT and will be live-streamed on official channels. Interestingly, a retail partner in Australia also hinted at an October 19 reveal for the two phones. It is expected that the Pixel 6 Pro will be the star of the show with its sleek design, curved display, and a triple camera array that includes a periscope-style zoom lens. The smaller Pixel 6 goes for flat screen aesthetics and misses out on the folded lens telephoto camera system.
Google's Most Ambitious Pixels So Far
The phone has already appeared in hands-on videos, and some of its core specifications have also surfaced online as well. The Pixel 6 series will mark the first time that Google is moving away from a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner in favor of an in-display sensor. As per previous leaks, the Pixel 6 Pro will come armed with a 50-megapixel primary snapper, a 48-megapixel zoom camera, and a 12-megapixel sensor for wide-angle photography. Upfront is a QHD OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, while the innards reportedly include 12GB of RAM and up to 512GB of storage. The battery capacity is said to stand at 5,000 mAh, but there is no word on fast charging numbers at the moment.
Coming to the vanilla Pixel 6, it reportedly packs a smaller 6.4-inch FHD+ OLED display with a lower 90Hz refresh rate and a centrally-positioned hole-punch cutout at the top. There will be 8GB of RAM and up to 256GB of storage inside, while the lights are reportedly kept on by a 4,614 mAh battery. Previous leaks have mentioned camera tricks, such as the ability to seamlessly remove certain elements from an image, an enhanced portrait spotlight feature, and an improved video capture experience. Another leak predicted a 629 Euro asking price for the Pixel 6, while the Pixel 6 Pro will likely start at 899 Euros. Rumors aside, expect firm Pixel 6 and 6 Pro details to be announced by Google on October 19th, 2021.
