Disney announced three new Pixar animated TV series coming to Disney+, two based on Pixar movies and an original series. Up and Cars are the lucky films getting the TV series treatment. Up explores 78-year-old Carl as he fulfills his life-long dream of flying to the South American wilderness by tying thousands of balloons to his home. A cub scout, Russell, sneaks into the house as it's flying away so he can help Carl and earn his badge. The two end up bonding throughout the journey and meet an adorable dog named Dug along the way.

In Cars, racecar Lightning McQueen is on his way to compete in the Piston Cup Championship in California when he falls out of his trailer. He ends up in a town called Radiator Springs and meets quirky vehicles Sally, Doc Hudson, and Mater, who help him get to the race. Both Cars and Up were hits for Pixar, although Cars was unquestionably a much bigger success, already spawning several sequels and a different spinoff series.

Disney confirmed the three new Pixar animated TV shows, announcing that Dug Days, the Up spinoff, will release first. The show follows the lovable, talking dog Dug as he adjusts to life in suburbia after living on the island Paradise Falls. The Cars series will follow Lightning McQueen and Mater as they take a road trip across the country. The third Pixar show will be its first original long-form series. It is titled Win or Lose and will follow a middle school baseball team and will play out almost like an anthology series as each episode will focus on a different character as the team gears up for the championship.

The three new series will release over the next three years on Disney+. Dug Days will be available in Fall 2021, followed by the Cars spin-off in 2022 and Pixar's original series Win or Lose in Fall 2023. The prospect of a new Pixar animated series is exciting. It is an untapped avenue that could be full of potential for Pixar. TV is in the midst of a golden age, and with many movie theaters still closed, Pixar could prosper and create more TV series in its emotionally powerful fashion.

Pixar has been a powerful force that has managed to maintain its strong legacy over the years. Pixar is known for creating imaginative universes filled to the brim with Easter eggs and emotional storylines that tug at viewers' heartstrings.  Finding Nemo, Toy Story, Monsters Inc, and Cars are films viewers still binge today even though they were initially released in the 1990s and early 2000s. Additionally, Pixar's recent releases like Coco and Inside Out have held up to their high standards. Time will only tell if Dug Days, the Cars spin-off, and Win or Lose will do the same.
