The Fox Network has a large collection of popular sitcoms. From shows like Bob's Burgers, New Girland Call Me Kat, FOX has had and continues to produce successful sitcoms. This past Sunday, Fox premiered the first episode of its newest comedy, Pivoting. Starring actresses Eliza Coupe, Maggie Q, and Ginnifer Goodwin, this comedy is lining up to be a hit.

The series follows three close female friends living in suburban Staten Island, New York trying to manage their lives following the passing of their friend, Coleen. Each of the three friends has their problems and challenges and wants to change their lives for the better with whatever precious time they have left. In just the premiere of the first episode, viewers witness some crazy scenes and hear some ridiculously comical lines. While the whole episode was humorous, a batch of them was simply funnier than the rest.

Sarah's Wrong Prediction

"I really did think you'd be the first to go, Amy. You know, with all the artificial sweeteners and smoking all those years, the drinking, the pills, the gluten, the jaywalking." - Sarah

Sarah, Jodie, and Amy at a funeral on Pivoting

Pivoting opens with a funeral, yet manages to pack in this funny line. At about the first minute, Sarah, played by Maggie Q, is seen on the left of the screen saying this line. Amy, played by Happy Endings actress Eliza Coupe, replies to her saying, "I'm so sorry. I promise, I will be next" in a state of dismissal and minor upset.

When Sarah delivers this line, it is nothing short of hilarious. She is at a funeral telling her living, longtime friend that she thought she would die first of all in the group. Not only does Sarah say this line, she even begins to slightly cry while doing so.

Funeral Blues

"Can't Even Day Drink At My Best Friend's Funeral Without Getting Interrupted?" - Sarah

Three women stand over a coffin in Pivoting,

This one-liner is mentioned in the scene right after the funeral. The three friends are seen at a bar, beginning to think and open up about their lives. Before they delve into the meat of them, Sarah mentions that she is now able to talk and sit with her two friends after a phone call from the hospital.

It is later stated in the episode that Sarah is a doctor, unhappy with her occupation. As she proceeds to take a seat at the bar, she drops this wow of a comment. Like her entrance, this line comes out of nowhere and makes the audience giggle.

A Stressful Life

"Yeah, That Is True, But It Is A Very High-Stress Job, Okay? And I Need Time To Decompress Before I Go Home, Before They Go To Bed." - Amy

Amy holds a coffee cup while talking in Pivoting.

Also within the bar scene is another downright hilarious quote. Coupe's character Amy, a mother of two young kids and a full-time cooking show producer, is overwhelmed by the stress she endures from her life. It is overly hectic and all over the place. She wants to be there for her kids but is unable to handle their energy after producing an entire morning show.

Coleen is described by the group as being a wonderful mother. Amy mistakenly believes she has been a terrible mom. She begins to take steps towards being the best mother possible later in the episode and is unable to "decompress" before seeing her kids, something many mothers wish for on a daily basis.

A Life-Changing Burrito

"It Wasn't About The Burrito, Amy." - Sarah

Sarah points at Amy and Jodie at the hospital on Pivoting

Following the opening title sequence in the episode "If She Could See Us Now," viewers watch Sarah and Amy talk to each other over the phone. In a completely shocking turn of events, Sarah tells Amy that she quit medicine. Her breaking point: a burrito. Someone ate half of Sarah's burrito and left the other half in the microwave.

Not every viewer is a doctor like Sarah but almost everyone can relate to someone eating their food without permission and leaving not even a note. The fact that a person decides to give up a career in medicine after many years of study and financial payments after a burrito incident is comedy gold.

A Mother's Duty

"Luke, I'm Going To Want You Hold Your Breath Right Now. It's Not Healthy." - Amy

Just as Amy was feeling like she had gotten everything under control after relieving Gloria, the nanny, of duty, her youngest child, Jules, also relieves herself of duty. Amy and her eldest child, Luke, cannot take the smell and they open the windows and plug their noses.

Amy's quote showcases her humor in a tough situation while also revealing her maternal instincts in shielding her son from the horror of smelling his sibling's "accident." Just like similar TV shows with cool moms, Pivoting's Amy is both relatable and aspirational as she juggles the burden and pleasure of being a working parent.

From Medicine To Groceries

"Oh, Well, If It's Anything Like Putting Organs Back Into A Body." - Sarah

After the whole burrito fiasco and electing to quit medicine, Sarah takes an interview with the local grocery store. She is attracted by the fun and positive atmosphere of the store and wants to do something that makes her happy.

When the interview is conducted, Sarah is asked several standard questions like whether she has any bagging experience. Amusingly she replies with this quote about the question. Sarah's witty reply is droll and astonishingly laughable. She doesn't have any experience bagging groceries, but moving from doctoring to bagging groceries is a wild career change.

A Snow White Past

"Umm, Do You Have A Pen? All I Have Is This, Uh, Princess One." - Jodie

Jodie laughs while looking at Sarah in Pivoting.

While the quote does not seem funny on the surface, it is undeniably a laughable line from Jodie. Jodie is filling out a form at the emergency room after she was accidentally stabbed in the leg by some medical scissors while trying to remove her skinny jeans.

Jodie is played by Ginnifer Goodwin, who embodied one of the best characters in ABC's Once Upon A TimeIn that show, Goodwin played Mary Margaret Blanchard, more commonly known as Snow White. It is a clever and amusing nod to her most popular role and funny that she is filling out a medical document with a princess pen of all pens.

A Skinny Size Does Not Fit All

"I Just Need You To Roll Me Over, Pull Down My Sweatshirt So It Looks Like These Jeans Fit, And Take A Photo Of Me From Behind." - Jodie

Jodie stretches out her legs next to Amy in Pivoting.

Jodie wants to get in shape. She wants to lose weight and feel better about her body. Following a session at the gym with her attractive physical trainer Matt, Jodie tries to fit into her skinny jeans for a picture to send to him. Unfortunately, the struggle is real for Jodie.

Viewers see her grunt and yell her way into the jeans, but she cannot zip it all together. Amy comes over to help Jodie and Jodie asks her to simply do everything mentioned in the quote. Nothing difficult, just a long set of instructions to a friend about what is usually a simple task.

Cutting The Fat

"Brown Fat?! Just Cut Me Out! Cut Out All The Colors Of The Fat!" - Jodie

Continuing the same scene, after taking the picture Sarah arrives at Jodie's house where Amy and Jodie are trying desperately to get Jodie out of the skinny jeans. Sarah, being a doctor, tells Jodie that to remove the jeans Jodie will need to soak her legs in an ice bath for the legs to contract and activate the brown fat. Jodie, putting maximum effort into getting rid of fat, yells in anger to "Cut out all the colors of the fat!"

This is hysterical line adds to the already funny skinny jeans scene. It reveals Jodie's struggle with her weight and her attempts to attain an "ideal" size that isn't healthy for her.

Growing Pains

"Boy, I Can't Panic Like I Could In My 20s." - Henry

Tommy Dewey sits with his hand on his chin in Casual.

This simple and comedic line is delivered by Amy's husband, Henry. Played by Tommy Dewey, Henry is a caring and great husband that works in construction while being a fantastic father. He comes to the hospital, worried that the worst has happened to Amy.

Luckily, nothing happened to his wife and everyone was fine. Henry however was beyond stressed that he was hilariously bending over standing up, gasping for air. People tend to stress a lot, especially parents, but can't do it as they did in their 20s.
