Anna Kendrick and her Barden Bellas are back for a third slice of competitive A Cappella drama in Pitch Perfect 3, and here are the songs they’ll be belting out along the way. The Pitch Perfect trilogy is based around an eclectic bunch of female college students that enter the world of competitive singing and take the A Cappella game by storm with their unique approach and endearing personalities. Featuring the likes of Rebel Wilson and Hailee Steinfeld, as well as the consistently-hilarious duo of Elizabeth Banks and John Michael Higgins as a gloriously inappropriate commentary team, Pitch Perfect has earned itself a huge fan base thanks to its mix of solid music and college drama.
Of course, a huge part of Pitch Perfect‘s success can be attributed to the songs performed in each movie. Whether being sung by the Barden Bellas, the Treblemakers or Pitch Perfect 2‘s Das Sound Machine, the tunes in the franchise have become almost as popular and well-known as the movies themselves. Particular highlights include “Cups,” “Flashlight” and any of the hugely popular mash-ups peppered throughout the series.
Bellas fans can now see exactly what songs are included in the imminent Pitch Perfect 3, as the track listing for the movie’s official soundtrack has been released. The songs are as follows:
- Universal Fanfare (The Bellas)
- Toxic (The Bellas)
- Sit Still, Look Pretty (The New Barden Bellas)
- Riff Off (The Bellas, Evermoist, Saddle Up, Young Sparrow And DJ Dragon Nutz, Soldiers)
- You Got It (Young Sparrow And DJ Dragon Nutz)
- Ex’s and Oh’s (Saddle Up)
- How A Heart Unbreaks (Evermoist)
- Cheap Thrills (The Bellas)
- I Don’t Like It, I Love It (The Bellas)
- Cake By The Ocean (The Bellas)
- Freedom! ’90 (The Bellas)
- Soy Yo (Bomba Estéreo)
- Boom Boom feat. Zedd (Iggy Azalea)
- Tribe (Kim Viera)
- Score Suite From Pitch Perfect 3 (Christopher Lennertz)
As should be expected by now, the songs in Pitch Perfect 3 are a mixture of modern hits such as “Cake By The Ocean” and “Ex’s And Oh’s” and pop classics like Britney Spears’ “Toxic.” In a touching tribute, the Bellas will also be performing “Freedom! ’90” by George Michael, who sadly passed away last year.
Fans will be pleased to see the return of the famous “Riff Off” format from previous installments, which pits the Bellas against a host of other A Cappella groups in a fast-paced vocal duel. Notably, Pitch Perfect 3 will seemingly also include original material, as hinted at in the movie’s trailer which saw the Bellas mocked by a rival group for only performing covers.
As far as the soundtrack is concerned, it appears that Pitch Perfect 3 is serving up more of the same for this third – and supposedly final – installment. While you can certainly wheel out the “If it ain’t broke…” argument here, critical reception to Pitch Perfect 3 has been more negative than positive thus far.
