In case you weren't aware, there's another Pirates of the Caribbean movie on the way, despite the third movie making a strong case for the franchise to sail off into the sunset, never to be heard from again.
Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides is currently in filming in Hawaii and amongst the principal cast are Johnny Depp, Geoffrey Rush, Ian McShane and Penelope Cruz. Speaking of the latter, Radar Online has managed to snagged a whole slew of images from the set of the movie and they give us our first look at Cruz in her role.
Cruz plays the daughter of McShane's Blackbeard (the new franchise villain) and is described as, "Jack Sparrow's foil and his equal in many ways." The set pics don't show much in the way of action, so it's hard to judge just how much of an equal Cruz will be to Captain Jack. But at least we can get an idea of how Cruz will look in the movie.
Take a look at a selection of the Pirates of the Caribbean 4 images below, which also give us a look at Rush as returning fan-favorite character, Captain Barbossa:

Now that both Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley have dropped out of the franchise (their love story nonsense crippled the two sequels) Pirates can start sailing in a better direction. The filmmakers have already brought in fresh blood with Cruz and McShane, but have also added more new faces, including Stephen Graham (Public Enemies), Astrid-Berges Frisbey (playing a mermaid) and Sam Claflin as, "Philip, a youthful missionary."
Focusing on Cruz in particular, I'm intrigued to see how they go about making her an equal for Captain Jack. He's pretty much the focus of the series (a big part of the franchise's success is due to him) and his persona/charisma almost always manages to be the center of attention. Is there any doubt Cruz will turn out to be some sort of love interest for Jack? I imagine at the very least there will be some romantic tension going on.
Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides will sail into 3D and regular theaters on May 20th, 2011.
