It’s been over two years since a Pirates of the Caribbean story last released, with the fifth installment of the franchise showing Jack Sparrow team up with young Henry Turner in order to save his father, Will Turner, and Elizabeth Swann from a long life apart.

The latest blockbuster starring Jonny Depp as the maverick pirate failed to meet the same heights as the original trilogy but was, nevertheless, an enjoyable experience. Not only that but it also led us to more questions we’d like to see answered. Here’s 10 reasons we need another movie in the franchise rather than a reboot.

Is Davy Jones Alive?

The fifth Pirates of the Caribbean movie ended with Will Turner and Elizabeth Swann reunited and going to sleep together. The camera ominously pans to show a claw within the room, however, while a shadow cast seems to show tentacles on the face of the person who is watching them in darkness.

And that’s begged the question: did Davy Jones survive? We last saw the character tumbling into the maelstrom at the end of At World’s End after Jack Sparrow helped a dying Will pierce his heart. The fact that the character within the room bears such striking resemblance to the villain of the second and third movies in the franchise has led to talk he may have survived after all.

Or Is The Davy Jones Hint A Sign Of Will’s Struggles?

The alternative theory is that, because Will Turner was asleep at the time the scene involving Davy Jones or a Davy Jones doppelgänger, he could merely have been having a bad dream as a result of his time aboard The Flying Dutchman.

This is why the directors decided to include the scene as a shadowy figure rather than confirming whether or not the pirate had survived his fall two movies ago. It’s open to interpretation and, given Will went through some pretty horrific stuff as a result of Jones, it’s plausible that he could have just been reliving past nightmares.

Did Davy Jones Have A Son?

A third and final question regarding Davy Jones is; did he have a son? This one seems incredibly far-fetched but, due to the backstory we get on the villain during the third Pirates blockbuster, it’s certainly something that can’t be ruled out.

Jones was previously a human who fell in love with a witch named Calypso. He gave everything to her, including her heart, but turned into a rogue character when she failed to show when he revisited land. Any child they had would likely have been human but, given Calypso was a master of both sorcery and secrecy, he could have turned out just as freaky-looking as his father. And he could be in Will Turner and Elizabeth Swann’s room on a revenge mission.

What's Next For Jack Sparrow?

Kaya Scodelario as Carina Smyth and Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow are in Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Men Tell No Tales.

When you think of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, chances are that Jonny Depp’s Captain Jack Sparrow will be the first character to cross your mind. The maverick pirate has become the icon of the franchise and is regarded as one of Disney’s finest creations in recent memory with Depp able to charm audiences in the role with ease.

At the end of the fifth movie, Dead Men Tell No Tales, Sparrow was reunited with his famous compass and beloved Black Pearl. But what did he do after? We’d love to find out - and no doubt it would be a fitting and dastardly scheme.

Is Barbossa Really Dead This Time?

We thought we’d seen the last of Hector Barbossa in the first-ever Pirates of the Caribbean movie when he was stabbed by Jack Sparrow shortly after Will Turner had lifted the curse of immortality. He was later brought back by Calypso, though, and helped the gang save Jack from Davy Jones’ locker.

Barbossa appeared to die for good in the latest installment of the franchise, sacrificing himself in order to kill off Captain Salazar’s army and ensure his daughter, Carina, escaped any harm. It seems like he’s well and truly gone this time but if you don’t see the body... you get the gist.

Is Jack Sparrow On The British Radar?

Dead Men Tell No Tales begins with Jack Sparrow attempting another over-the-top and ambitious scheme. He steals an entire vault from a village - not the contents, the actual vault - and then proceeds to flee to safety, improvising as British Soldiers swarm him and try to take him down.

Later in the movie, however, Jack struts past British Soldiers and nobody seems to bat an eyelid. This means we’re pretty unsure whether he’s a wanted man or not and that’s something a sixth and final Pirates of the Caribbean movie can shed some light on.

Why Did Cutler Beckett Brand Jack?

We’re going back a bit now because there’s still plenty of elements of Captain Jack Sparrow’s backstory that we’d love to see explained on the big screen. During the second and third movies the pirate faces off against Lord Cutler Beckett and, before the East India Trading Company kingpin meets his end, it’s established the duo have a past together.

Beckett branded Jack with the Pirate sign but, besides the obvious, we want to know why. He also refers to them leaving marks on each other and there’s still so much of their relationship to explore - which is another reason we need a final blockbuster.

How Did Jack Become A Pirate Lord?

If pirates have Lords, and Captain Jack Sparrow is one of them, you’ve got to wonder about the state of their political climate. In At World’s End it’s revealed that Sparrow is one of nine Lords, meaning he’s entitled on a say as they bicker over how to defeat Davy Jones and the East India Trading Company in battle.

It would be fascinating to see how somebody as untrustworthy, mischievous, and unreliable as Sparrow came to get a seat at the table. Because, if he’s able to land one, then surely anybody can? A sixth movie, perhaps a prequel, can explain this in full.

What Did Elizabeth Swann Do During Will’s Exile?

The Pirates of the Caribbean Elizabeth Swann Knightley

At World’s End saw Will Turner and Elizabeth Swann become separated from each other due to the former stabbing the heart of Davy Jones and being given the task of controlling The Flying Dutchman and its crew. Will visited his wife in the post-credits scene of that movie, 10 years on from Jones’ apparent death, but we have no idea what she’s been up to.

Elizabeth, like both Will and Jack, had a knack for getting herself into trouble. And we’d love to know what adventures, if any, she got up to during her decade away from the love of her life.

What Next For Henry And Carina?

At the end of Dead Men Tell No Tales it looks as if Henry Turner and Carina Barbossa are set to settle down together. They helped bring Will Turner back from the land of the dead and it seems as if they’re a match made in heaven.

It would, therefore, be fascinating to see whether or not they stayed together. Just like Will Turner and Elizabeth Swann it's a romance that seems blissful but may end up to be anything but. We’d love to see what adventures the duo embark on and that would be a fascinating plot of any future Pirates of the Caribbean blockbuster.
