The upcoming racing game Disney Speedstorm has announced that Pirates of the Caribbean's Elizabeth Swann will be a playable racer in the game, adding to Disney favorites already confirmed for its roster. Disney Speedstorm was announced during the recent February Nintendo Direct, but will be available across platforms.

Racing game spin-offs based on huge IP are nothing new, but hopes are tentatively high for Disney Speedstorm. The game will use the free-to-play model, meaning anyone can dive in without spending, though as with many free-to-play games, there's expected to be microtransactions and in-game costs revealed down the line. The game was announced with a dynamic trailer that confirmed a number of classic Disney characters will be available as playable racers, including not just the core Disney crew like Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck, but also often overlooked characters like Mulan will appear in Disney Speedstorm.

Confirming the news on social media, Disney Speedstorm has officially revealed Pirates of the Caribbean's Elizabeth Swann will be joining the roster of playable racers. Swann joins fan-favorite Pirates hero Captain Jack Sparrow, who was previously spotted in the Disney Speedstorm reveal trailer. It's unclear if the duo will be available in the game for free, or if they'll be racers unlocked through gameplay progression or microtransactions.

Pirates of the Caribbean's Elizabeth Swann's confirmation as a Disney Speedstorm driver has come as a surprise to many on social media. The character, while a fan favorite within the movie series, isn't as widely recognized as Captain Jack, with much less merchandise and general hype around Swann compared to her swash-buckling on-screen companion. Captain Jack even appeared in Sea of Thieves, with an impressive expansion focused on the pirate. Swann's inclusion as a racer in Disney Speedstorm perhaps suggests that the game will branch out from the usual fictional faces associated with the House of Mouse, offering some unexpected live-action heroes and heroines the chance to appear in the racer.

Fans can expect more news on Disney Speedstorm and its roster of racers in the coming weeks, but an exact release date for the game has yet to be confirmed. It's very possible the racer is speeding onto platforms soon, with developer Gameloft previously sharing a release window of summer 2022. It seems likely that Disney Speedstorm will keep pre-launch interest in the game high by slowly revealing different characters that will be available to race as, and fans can pre-register for Disney Speedstorm now to keep on top of any potential future character reveals.
