Disney's long-anticipated remake of Pinocchio finally has a release date. The re-imagining of the 1940 classic is Walt Disney Studios' latest effort to remake some of its beloved animated features into live-action. Directed and co-written by Robert Zemeckis, the film boasts an impressive cast featuring Tom Hanks as Geppetto, Cynthia Erivo as the Blue Fairy, and Luke Evans as the Coachman. Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Lorraine Bracco, and Keegan-Michael Key provide voices for the creatures that Pinocchio (Benjamin Evan Ainsworth) comes across during his adventures. With filming on Pinocchio having been completed early last year, marketing for the reboot has recently begun to ramp up, with Disney releasing the first Pinocchio trailer and sharing set photos of the cast in action.

Alongside the new Pinocchio trailer, Disney has also announced the film's release date. Luckily, it seems that audiences won't have to wait long to see it. The new trailer reveals that Pinocchio will be available to stream on the Disney+ service on September 8, 2022, which was also confirmed in a Twitter post from the studio. Check out the trailer and release date announcement below.

The chosen release date of September 8 (Disney+ Day) is revealing, since it illustrates the level of prestige the company is awarding its new Pinocchio, which could prove to be the headlining event. The 2021 Disney+ Day received some backlash last year for multiple early news leaks, paywall issues, and a chaotic Twitter thread. As such, Pinocchio's release date may well be an attempt by the studio to radically change how it approaches celebrating its own streaming anniversary, focusing more on tangible film and TV releases rather than announcements. Either way, Disney devotees can now at least mark their diaries for the return of cinema's most famous wooden puppet when Pinocchio comes to the service.
