NEON debuts the first trailer for Pig, in which Nicolas Cage sets out in search of his beloved foraging pig after she is kidnapped. Cage stars in the film alongside Hereditary's Alex WolffGet Shorty's Adam Arkin, The Rockford Files' Gretchen Corbett, and Nina Belforte. The indie drama is directed by Michael Sarnoski from a script he co-wrote with Vanessa Block.

Cage has been enjoying a mild comeback of late in the indie genre world thanks to celebrated turns in Panos Cosmatos' Mandy and Richard Stanley's Color Out of Space as well as lending his voice to the animated world with The Croods franchise and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Development of Pig was first announced in late 2019 when Cage and Wolff signed on to star in the film and principal photography swiftly got underway. Following a heated bidding war for the drama, NEON acquired the rights to the film in early 2020 with plans for a theatrical release, though left it undated due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

As theaters have begun reopening, NEON has revealed the first trailer for Pig and set a July 16 release date for the film. The first footage offers a better insight into the story and Cage's truffle-hunting Rob, as well as the film's supporting cast. Check out the first trailer for Pig below:

He may have enjoyed a wave of stardom from the mid-90s to the early '00s with blockbuster efforts like The Rock and National Treasure, but Cage's recent work in the indie genre has proven far more valuable to him and fans. Granted, they may not be reaching the same critical heights as some of his past works, but the films have offered the Oscar winner a chance to tap into the weirder sensibilities of his characters and deliver some wild performances. The first trailer for Pig certainly appears to be right up that alley of off-the-beaten-path storytelling Cage has become accustomed to of late.

Combining a John Wick-style story with a more serious tonal approach to its subject, Pig definitely looks to be a film that will land on the list of cult classics on Cage's filmography. Whether it's capable of reaching the same heights as the Keanu Reeves-led franchise or soar to the surreal levels of Willy's Wonderland is yet to be known. But with the film's theatrical release right around the corner, viewers won't have to wait for long to see where it lands on their Cage rankings.
