Star Trek: Picard season 3 introduces the daughters of Lt. Commander Geordi La Forge (LeVar Burton), and each daughter represents the two roles he had aboard the Enterprise in Star Trek: The Next Generation. Showrunner Terry Matalas has said that Picard season 3 is all about giving the TNG crew a fitting send-off which hands over to Star Trek's next generation. Geordi's daughters Ensign Sidney La Forge (Ashlei Sharpe Chestnut) and Ensign Alandra La Forge (Mica Burton) will be key to that handover.

Geordi's daughters were introduced in TNG's finale, where a retired Admiral Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) asked about his former engineer's children. Although that interaction took place in an aborted alternate future, Picard season 3 has now confirmed the names of Sidney and Alandra in the prime Star Trek universe. It remains to be seen if their mother is, as hinted in TNG, the scientist Dr. Leah Brahms (Susan Gibney.) While confirming Leah would risk revisiting a controversial moment in Geordi's TNG arc, his two daughters Sidney and Alandra are a perfect tribute to him and his dual roles aboard the Enterprise.

How Sidney & Alandra La Forge Honor Geordi’s Roles

LeVar Burton as Geordi La Forge in Star Trek: The Next Generation

In Picard season 3, Ensign Sidney La Forge is a member of the new USS Titan-A bridge crew, which is commandeered by Jean-Luc and Captain William T Riker (Jonathan Frakes.) Sidney is the Titan's helmsman, responsible for flying, rather than fixing the ship. However, this is exactly where Geordi started his TNG journey, serving alongside Lieutenant Commander Data (Brent Spiner) at the helm of the USS Enterprise-D throughout season 1. Sidney is therefore following in her father's footsteps by manning the helm for Picard and Riker on the Titan.

Sidney's sister Alandra will also appear in Picard season 3, more explicitly following in the footsteps of the famous Enterprise engineer. La Forge is better known for his engineering prowess, rather than his abilities as a pilot. This is because Geordi was promoted in TNG season 2, earning the position of Chief Engineer, a role in which he remained for the rest of TNG and the subsequent movies. Like her father, Alandra is more interested in building ships than she is in flying them, and it will be interesting to see what the La Forge family dynamic is when they're brought together by Picard's mission.

Who Sidney & Alandra’s Mother Could Be

Star Trek the next generation Geordi la Forge Dr Leah Brahms

In the original TNG finale, the mother of Geordi's children is referred to as "Leah". It's possible that this was a reference to Dr. Leah Brahms, with whom Geordi was infatuated in TNG. It was a strange touch, given how horrified the real Brahms was when she realized Geordi had previously entered a romantic relationship with her hologram. Although the two ended up working together to stop the Enterprise from being destroyed by a spaceborn creature, it seemed that friendship, rather than romance was on the cards afterward.

The mother of Geordi's daughters in Picard could very easily be a new character, as over two decades passed between the end of the final TNG movie and the events of Star Trek: Picard season 3. Geordi was never very confident when it came to romance, but there's another potential mother in his TNG past. Star Trek: Lower Decks re-introduced Captain Sonya Gomez (Lycia Naff) to Trek canon in season 2. Gomez was originally intended as a love interest for Geordi in Star Trek: The Next Generation until the storyline was abandoned. Perhaps the two characters were finally able to pursue a life together, having two daughters who would grow up to be dedicated Starfleet officers like their parents.
