The recent indie success Phasmophobia received an update a few days ago that included a new feature that allows dead players to cause some chaos in their friends' games. Phasmophobia was released in early access in September, and since it has become one of the most popular games played by YouTubers and Twitch streamers. As the perfect game to play for some spooky scares in the month of Halloween, it rose to be the highest selling game on Steam for two weeks in a row during October, surpassing hits like Fall Guys and pre-orders for Cyberpunk 2077.

Phasmophobia is a game inspired by ghost hunter-type TV shows, in which players take the role of up to four members of a group of ghost hunters. This group is contracted to find and identify ghosts in abandoned buildings. There are twelve different types of ghosts players might encounter, each one behaving differently. The aim of the game is to find as much information on the ghosts as possible, and with an extensive ghost-hunting toolbox, players can communicate with, protect against, and investigate the ghosts that will try to kill anyone who disturbs them too much. An innovative feature that has been included is an in-game voice chat that players can use to talk to each other, but the ghosts can also hear what is being said and this will influence their behavior. Right now there is a beta version of the game out, so players can see some changes and improvements to the game, and give the developers some feedback as the game continues to get updates.

The most recent update mostly addresses bug fixes, according to a tweet from Phasmophobia, but also includes two new features. An objective to make a ghost walk through salt is the first, and the second and far more interesting is that dead players can now grab and/or throw objects around, with the exception of equipment being used. This creates an excellent opportunity to mess with friends in the game, and a post on Reddit from Aegis_And_Pred proves how much fun it can be to troll fellow ghost hunters by tossing an assortment of items at them.

Phasmophobia is a great co-op game in the horror genre, which is quite unique on its own. Developer Kinetic Games had considered a PvP mode, where three ghost hunters are pitted against one player-controlled ghost, but it has since scrapped this idea, with the developer saying that this would take the game in a direction that it doesn't want the game going towards.

This revolutionary game points horror towards a totally different place, and it sends a breath of fresh air through the musty genre. It seems like a whole lot of fun to play with some friends, especially if players scare easily and need a hand to hold through the game. The new feature that allows dead players to tease and torment the living makes the game very entertaining, and a little chaotic, as Aegis notes in her video on Reddit that she can't tell the difference between what the ghost is doing and what her friend is doing. This may cause some mayhem in Phasmophobia, but it means that friends who are killed still get to have some fun while the rest of the team is hunting the actual ghosts.
