In Phasmophobia, the players' goal is to complete objectives and collect evidence to correctly identify the ghost haunting the home or abandoned building. To do this, they are going to want to get as close as they can to the ghost and learn some things about it. Players have access to some professional ghost hunting equipment that can help them find and identify Phasmophobia's ghosts. If the players choose the appropriate equipment, they can find the ghost's room and gather evidence at the same time.

While Phasmophobia does offer a basic tutorial, it doesn’t really tell players how to look for ghosts using the right equipment. If players want to avoid being hunted by ghosts, they need to be better prepared and have the ability to remain calm to complete their investigations. Using equipment like a Spirit box or the thermometer can take Phasmophobia players a long way and avoid being thrown around the room.

What Room is the Ghost Room In Phasmophobia?

When players talk about the ghost's room in Phasmophobia, they simply mean the room in the house or building that the ghost has chosen to occupy and spend the most time. This is the place where players can often gather the most evidence about the ghost and complete their secondary objectives to earn extra money in Phasmophobia. Finding the ghost's room can be done in a variety of ways depending on play style, but there are a few strategies players can employ to find it more quickly or efficiently. The more advanced the players are, and the more equipment they have unlocked for purchase, the easier it will be to identify the ghost's room, but even beginners can do this quickly with the lower-cost equipment. Here's how to find the ghost's room the easy way in Phasmophobia.

Best Equipment to Find the Ghost's Room

The three most important pieces of equipment every player will want with them in their starter kit upon entering the haunted building are the EMF Reader, Thermometer, and Sound Sensor. Because Flashlights are also essential to staying sane and alive in Phasmophobia, players will want to choose either an EMF Reader or a Thermometer and bring a Sound Sensor and Flashlight.

The players should split up after grabbing their equipment and take EMF and temperature readings of every room. Ideally, each player will take a few different rooms so the team can cover more ground quickly. As the players move around the house, they should place a Sound Sensor to pick up ghostly noises. For a good overview of how Sound Sensors work in Phasmophobia, check out the YouTube video below from Insym:

If there is a ghost present, the EMF Reader will start beeping, or the temperature in the room will drop to 10 degrees Celsius or below. These are both pieces of evidence players will use to identify the kind of ghost. If the EMF Reader hits Level 5, this is evidence for the kind of ghost haunting the location. Similarly, if the temperature drops below 3 degrees Celsius, then Freezing Temperatures is a piece of evidence for the type of ghost haunting the location. If there is a ghost present, but EMF is not a piece of evidence to identify that ghost, the Reader will not reach Level 5. And, if Freezing Temperatures is not a piece of evidence for the type of ghost haunting the location, the temperature will only ever reach between 3 and 5 degrees Celsius.

After all Sound Sensors have been placed, one teammate can return to the van and find out which, if any, Sound Sensors are picking up ghost noises. The areas players have covered from the Sound Sensors will light up, and, if one picks up noises, the Sound Sensor graph will show a red bar indicating which room the noise is coming from. If no sound is getting picked up, this can be a good indication players need to search the area they haven't covered with the sensors.

Phasmophobia: Finding the Ghost Room on Large Maps

On larger maps, the Sound Sensors won't be as effective at ruling out the ghost's room. Instead, players should opt for the Parabolic Microphone as their starter tool in addition to the EMF Reader and Thermometer.

If players aren't at a high enough level to access Sound Sensors or Thermometers, or don't have enough money to buy them for every game, it is possible to forego these in favor of the Video Camera. Three teammates will each want to select an area, set up the camera in a back corner of the room where it has a good view of almost the entire area, and have one teammate begin asking the ghost questions. The fourth teammate should remain behind in the van and watch each different camera for several seconds, looking for signs of the ghost's movement, or, in particular, Ghost Orbs. Once the teammate in the van notices some activity, they should let the rest of the team know. The other teammates can then scour the area with the EMF Reader or any other equipment to narrow their search and find the ghost's room.

Another way to narrow the search when low on cash is to put down salt. This can be done before or after the teammate in the van identifies some ghostly activity on the cameras, and it can show players more precisely where they should be looking with the EMF Reader.

This will not work if the ghost is a Wraith! Instead, the ghost will have a reaction to the salt and become angry.

Finding Ghost Rooms in Phasmophobia with the Spirit Box

The final method to find the ghost room in Phasmophobia is by using the Spirit Box. While it doesn’t work each time, it does let Phasmophobia players communicate with ghosts during the early stages of the game. The Spirit Box should be used in tandem with the EMF-5, Thermometer, and UV light to find ghost orbs in a room. Alternatively, players can also place a camera with the green light on and spot floating orbs from the camera feed in the truck. Check out the video from Bushwack 18 above to quickly see how to use the Spirit Box in Phasmophobia properly.

It may seem simplistic, but players may also always just ask the ghost where it is. Sometimes, the ghost will respond or will perform some kind of activity in the building, which can help the team discover the ghost room.

This can be dangerous if players try it outside the allotted setup time at the start of the match!

The amount of time they get at the start of the game depends on the difficulty level. On an Amateur-difficulty match, players get 5 minutes to set up, during which the ghost cannot become active or initiate a hunting phase. On Intermediate-difficulty maps, players get 2 minutes, and on Professional-difficulty maps, there is no buffer, and the ghost can become active immediately. Asking the ghost questions is essential for players who don't have access to the Thermometer or Sound Sensors and who are using the Video Camera method, but on Professional finding the ghost room in Phasmophobia can be very dangerous.
