Ghost hunting in Phasmophobia is getting a terrifying new feature as an update will add haptic suit feedback that will let ghosts touch players. The instant indie hit Phasmophobia  quickly climbed the Steam charts with its terrifying gameplay, which requires teamwork and courage to hunt down dangerous ghosts. Fans enjoy laughing at streamers as they hunt ghosts, but the game itself elicits far more screams as players strap on a VR headset or sit down at their PC and head into the darkness themselves. With the release of an update that makes ghosts even smarter, Phasmophobia is a horror force to be reckoned with. Now, that thrill is becoming more intense as a new bHaptic feature will allow a physical connection between the player and the ghost that is hunting them.

Since the main objective in Phasmophobia is to locate and identify a ghost in a given location, players must contend with dark basements, creaky sounds, and harrowing ghost hunts if they are going to solve the mystery. While ghost hunts can be survivable if players hide well or get out of the house quick enough, many hunts in Phasmophobia end with an inescapable demise at the ghost’s hands. With an update in January, hunts became even more dangerous when ghosts received the ability to locate players by the sound of their voice. A substantial new update is enhancing ghost’s capabilities even more by adding haptic feedback that allows ghosts to actually touch players.

As reported by Game Rant, Kinetic Studios tweeted a long list of game fixes and changes in the latest patch, revealing a beta feature that adds support for bHaptics for tact suits and face covers. The update will also add much needed fixes to the game, addressing a bug where players disconnect after loading into a match, instances when VR dead bodies wouldn’t spawn, and many more. There are over seventeen fixes in total, as well as changes and new objectives that will keep the game fresh and exciting.

Where the update really shines is in its addition of haptics into the game. Haptics are essentially a sensory input that allows players to experience the game with new levels of immersion, most commonly through enhanced sight, sound, and touch. The haptics Kinetic Studios is adding to Phasmophobia is along the lines of PlayStation 5’s haptics on the Dualsense controllers, but on a much grander scale as the haptics will be added to tact suits and face covers, giving a direct connection to the player’s body. The haptics will make it feel as though the ghost is really touching the player, most likely causing the haptics to grow harder and tenser as the ghost attacks more violently.

There is no telling how far Kinetic Studios will take the haptics in Phasmophobia, but the latest update is a good sign that there is a long road ahead of the game. Not only are there a plethora of bug fixes, but the new haptic feature should give players hope that the game is still very much alive and will continue to grow and expand. While there is no telling how terrifying Phasmophobia will become with these new mechanics, the fact that the game is scary enough as-is should mean that haptics will elevate gameplay to downright terrifying levels.
