Marvel’s plans for Avengers: The Kang Dynasty make it likely that the Multiverse Saga’s missing new hero – Wonder Man – will be a part of the team. Though Marvel hasn’t confirmed his live-action debut, it’s no secret that Simon Williams a.k.a. Wonder Man is among the many classic Avengers on their way to the MCU within the next few years. However, the character was noticeably absent from Marvel’s announcements at San Diego Comic-Con 2022.

In Marvel Comics, Wonder Man is a superhero powered by ionic energy and a longtime member of the Avengers. He’s known for a number of things, including his friendship with the Beast, his immortality, his love triangle with Scarlet Witch and Vision, and his life as a Hollywood actor. The latter is widely expected to be a focal point of his upcoming MCU project, which is reportedly in development at Marvel Studios for Disney+. Many believed that Marvel would officially confirm his Disney+ show (and perhaps even announce an actor for the role of Simon Williams) at SDCC, but there was no mention of the series or the character. But since there are several open dates on Marvel’s Phase 6 slate, Wonder Man still has good chances of premiering in 2024 or 2025.

In addition to getting his own show, Wonder Man has emerged as a candidate for Marvel’s next Avengers team. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings director Destin Daniel Cretton has been tapped to helm Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. What’s interesting about that in regards to Simon Williams is the fact that Cretton is developing the hero’s new show. Cretton making both Wonder Man and Avengers 5 in Phase 6 would be indicative of a connection between the two projects. With Kang Dynasty and Avenger: Secret Wars being the culmination of the various movies and shows in the Multiverse Saga, it would make perfect sense if Cretton is using Wonder Man as one of the final building blocks to Kang Dynasty.

Why Wonder Man Makes Sense For The Avengers 5

The West Coast Avengers charge into battle in Marvel Comics.

As a mainstay of the team for several years in the comic books, Wonder Man would be a solid choice for a spot on the next Avengers roster. During his tenure with them, he’s had meaningful interactions and relationships with several of his teammates, such as Vision, Scarlet Witch, Beast, Hercules, Hawkeye, Thor, Carol Danvers, and more. Several of these could be translated well to the big screen if handled correctly. Plus, he was on the team that fought Kang in the 2002 crossover that shares its name with Kang Dynasty. There’s also the matter of Wonder Man’s impressive power level. Considering that his strength puts him on par with characters like Thor and Carol, recruiting him for the team should be an easy decision for the Avengers leader.

Since Carol, Thor, She-Hulk, and even Hercules may be on hand in Phase 5, the heroes may not necessarily need the added muscle, but regardless, Wonder Man comes with a ton of storytelling potential for Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. As a unique new hero for the MCU with dozens of Avengers stories under his belt, Wonder Man is one of several characters Marvel can use to launch a new generation of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. If that’s true, Wonder Man’s story may directly lead to Simon getting an invitation to join the group.
