A new cinematic trailer for space adventure Phantom Galaxies shows off a universe that should appeal to Transformers and Gundam fans. The upcoming sci-fi video game comes from Blowfish Studios and Animoca Brands, and will challenge players with saving humanity from an alien threat. The game will launch for consoles and PC sometime in 2022.

While Phantom Galaxies is set to provide a unique intergalactic adventure, the game will contain elements familiar to fans of military science fiction. The game will see players take control of Mechanized Starfighters, similar to the mecha seen in Gundam, or the robots of Transformers. The Starfighters have the ability to transition from advanced fighter spacecraft into combat mechs ready to take on the challenges the elite Ranger Squadron will face down in the upcoming space RPG.

As revealed by the new Phantom Galaxies cinematic trailer, the game will feature a "gripping narrative campaign of survival and dominance." A press release adds that Mechanized Starfighters will be used to defeat the Sha'Har, a "mysterious and warlike civilization" aiming to extinguish humankind for good. Players will use their array of vessels to explore a universe inhabited by pirates, enemy factions, and scavengers, undertaking bounties and smuggling missions on their intergalactic quest to save the human race. Choices made in the game will "ripple across the colonies," impacting the story and narrative. Phantom Galaxies will also use NFT assets, "allowing players to have digital property rights in games."

The explosive cinematic game trailer teases some of the action awaiting players in Phantom Galaxies. One of the game's Mechanized Starfighters is shown avoiding laser gunfire from what looks like an enemy ship, before transforming from starcraft into an armed combat mech ready for battle. The transformation is an impressive one, though it's worth noting that no gameplay for the upcoming space game has been revealed at this stage.

Phantom Galaxies looks like a promising intergalactic adventure, offering traditional RPG elements such as the power to unlock new skills and abilities within a unique open world. A firm release date hasn't been given for the game, but with it due to release next year, players can hopefully learn more about Phantom Galaxies - and see some gameplay - in the coming months. The developer hasn't confirmed what consoles the game is coming to, which could mean the release is planning to skip last-gen systems like PS4 and Xbox One. Those interested in the game can follow its progress across its official social media channels.
