The upcoming PGA Tour 2K23 will have improved MyPLAYER and MyCAREER features, aiming to give players a large amount of control over their golf experience. After a multiple year hiatus, the series recently returned with the release of the well-received PGA Tour 2K21, bringing back the authentic golf game players know and love. Now the upcoming 2K23 release aims to heighten what was presented in the previous franchise entry, introducing new elements into the game.
PGA Tour 2K23 won't be the first entry to feature MyPLAYER and MyCAREER modes - players have previously been able to create a custom character in game and follow them as they build up their career. However, both modes have received new improvements as part of an effort to allow players to play on their own terms and get the most out of the series. While the title will also be offering new modes of gameplay - with the addition of the new PGA Tour 2K23 Topgolf mode recently announced - the core part of the Tour experience for many players has always been creating their own career.
MyPLAYER mode has more customization options than ever before in PGA Tour 2K23, giving players massive control over the character design. Whether players are looking to recreate themselves in-game or design a completely new persona, they'll be able to with MyPLAYER, where they can control over everything from broader details like height and hair to minutiae like nose curve and eye distance. A number of well-known designer labels are also a part of MyPLAYER's clothing options, including Nike Golf, Hugo Boss, PUMA, Adidas and more.
Alongside appearance, PGA Tour 2K23 players for the first time ever can also select an archetype for their player. Much like archetypes in other games, in 2K23 a character's archetype indicates their specialization, with the game letting players choose between five options: Powerhouse, Rhythm, Woodsman, Greenspan, or Sculptor. As players utilize their MyPLAYER, they'll be able to progress through a skill tree that includes a myriad of different boons to aid things like putting and drive. Interestingly, these skills are designed to function situationally, meaning that a player having a particularly lucky game may have a few deactivated to keep them from becoming overpowered, while a player having a rough go of it will likely see some newly activated skills.
Outside the many possible MyPLAYER designs, players can also customize their PGA Tour 2K23 experience via their equipment and companion. Players can take to all the courses of PGA Tour 2K23 with a customized golf bag full of fitted clubs and unique balls. Players can use club fittings can assign different attributes to either a single club or a player's entire bag, and change their balls' appearance and type, which also affects its attributes. For the first time, a specific caddy can also be chosen by the player for their MyCAREER campaign, which at this point in time only serves to enhance the atmosphere of the game, but developers stated there's a "bright future for how [they'll] continue to expand on that feature."
MyCAREER in PGA Tour 2K23 will let players begin either in Q-School - the qualifying tournament that leads up to the tour - and work their way up, or jump straight into touring. In MyCAREER, players will be able to enjoy three new official events and 12 new fictional events as they golf alongside greats like Tiger Woods in PGA Tour 2K23 and build a name for themselves as a player - over time, they can even earn themselves a rival. Sponsorships for MyCAREER have been expanded since previous titles, with players now beginning with a baseline sponsorship and earning sponsor reputation through their performance, equipment and apparel.
PGA Tour 2K23 is bringing players more ways than ever before to live out the ultimate golf fantasy by letting players tailor what that fantasy looks like. The incredibly customizable MyPLAYER likeness allow players to create the ultimate doppelganger if they so desire with any skill specialties they wish, and MyCAREER offers its most comprehensive experience yet in terms of the different routes players can take. These improved modes bring a lot to the table, and certainly give players a lot to look forward to when PGA Tour 2K23 releases next month.
